The previous staff didn't do him (or any other Vol) any favors given its chronic ineptitude, but on the other hand...but "took my dream away" is a bit melodramatic on #18's part. He's apparently an emotional individual, but emotion doesn't win the starting job all the time. Hopefully he'll get a shot wherever he ends up.

He's got undeniable talent, but he's always seemed to be a little too much inside his own head. I said 2 years ago that he struck me as being immature. Unfortunately, 2 years on campus, at the tattoo parlor and on social media posts haven't helped him turn the corner. I hope he gets it figured out.

Good luck to BM, and he had a few amazing moments here. I hope he keeps his head up and focus on what he can control. Heals whatever emotional demons he may have and goes on to have a good solid career elsewhere. I can certainly understand him wanting to play ball. I believe that we have a solid QB room for the first time in a long while. No reason to trash the guy. I hope he gets a chance to live his dream

"took his dream after 4 days"= 4 days of fall practice, daily video reviews/gradings of the structured "voluntary" summer workouts, and a full spring practice. I do wish him well though.

He had some miscues, and maybe he is having some now. But I think we should all remember that he gave incredible effort on behalf of UT. He hasn't loved the Vols longer than most of us, nor given more money than some. However, when it comes to giving physical effort for the team, and carrying the burden of representing the team in the uniform before everyone's critiquing eyes...in those ways, he has done more than any of us on VN (except the former players on here). He is a young man whose emotions are roiled right now. I think we should choose to remember the good about Brian Maurer and graciously overlook the things he might say now that are less than apt. It's probably a time of great turmoil for him. But the guy loved to wear the Big Orange uniform. We can choose to remember about him what we will. We can choose to honor the good and forget the bad. Let's give this young man our best goodbye.

At the end of the day, I appreciate that he wanted to succeed for UT, but I personally don't think he was an SEC quarterback. Is some of that on the previous coaching staff... maybe, but I think all of these players prefer a coach being honest with them and the depth chart is what it is. If we really think about it, barring some miraculous turn around he was always going to be 4th on this depth chart.

Hooker is the known commodity and might very well be who we see first this season. Bailey is a pure pocket passer with arm talent that can show zip on the ball and touch, but can he move enough to be successful and allow downfield plays to develop. Milton is the freak athlete with a cannon arm, accuracy and touch issues, but could make life miserable on opposing defenses because they have to account for him on every snap. Maurer is a smaller, less athletic Milton with less arm talent and a propensity for throwing the ball into contested areas and a history of injuries.

The whole "They took my dream away after 4 days" crap is just a kid wanting to shape a narrative that makes him the victim. Its immature, but a lot of these guys (and us) are immature.

If he really is gone, I wish him well. He wanted to succeed at UT, but it just wasn't to be and that is okay. He can still go play somewhere, earn that spot and have a successful college career and I hope he does.

4 days into Fall practice and he is quitting, that is the temperance of his generation....
Unfortunately, even at this level it is a business. He obviously understands that. He loves the Vols; however, staying would have crippled his future earning potential in the sport. Hopefully there is someone that really wants him from the transfer portal. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.

Give the kid a little grace. It is not easy to invest so much of yourself into something as he has and for it not to pan out. I wish him all the best. If you want to be upset with someone, be upset with Pruitt who should have played him when he WAS actually the best when on the roster. That’s who killed his dream

Doesn’t feel like quitting in this instance. Just feels best for both parties. Moving on when mutually beneficial and quitting aren’t the same thing. Now if he had said “ I’m number two on the depth chart, bump that, I’m out to smoke indo and sip gin and juice”. Then that would be quitting. I imagine he is going somewhere else to try to bring his dreams to fruition.

He didn’t die. 🤨 And shouldn’t (rumor) be in the title?

Whatever, I'm just ready for Bowling Green and going to games again. With/without Maurer, wasn't going to make a difference. Sorry, kid. Best of luck.
