JJ was one of our best athletes if not the best, as far as impact players I don't think there was anyone else greater last year that WAS returning to play in 2011.

Man bad news but it sounds like it is for the best. I believe this is where VFL truly comes into play. Give your brother the strength and support we all need during trying times.
I can not imagine the challenges that kind of noteriety brings. Things tend to be made "easy" or "sugar coated" just a little with fame. How will someone deal with a problem they have masked for years, when, the only variable changed is the amount of money they have to throw at it?
Best wishes JJ, hope your able to find whatever it is you are seeking!

While this is not good news, the coaches were prepared for it and planned accordingly.

UT was lucky to get him back for the bowl game. This was inevitable and was mentioned as likely back in December.

JJ would be wise to return as soon as he can and work his heart out getting prepped for next season. I believe turning in an All-SEC type of year could mean a 1st round pick and a huge payday for him, his family, and whatever his personal issues are. It is amazing how a few million can make one's problems so much easier to deal with: if someone is sick you can buy the best medical care available, if someone's in jail you can buy the best defense team available, if your girl is pregnant you can set up a college/trust fund, etc......

Regardless of what the real story is here and whether he ends up back with us or somewhere else, he has been a superb talent to watch on the field and I feel lucky to have been able to watch him for the last couple of seasons. He will be missed.

I hope and pray things work out for the best for him and his family. He definitely has pro potential, and hopefully some day, we will all get to watch him on Sundays.

Go Vols!

How will we overcome the loss of Cody Pope?

I don't understand all the Pope hate. Yeah, so the kid wasn't the greatest center of all time, but he got seriously injured (an injury that looks like it will leave him with a life-long deficit) giving his all for the Vols.

Damn...some of you need to do some serious soul-searching and get a freakin' life already.

This is why I think Janzen will be back in a UT uniform this fall. You'd have to assume Dooley is preaching the same thing to him. Hopefully whatever issues he's having will be cleared up in the Spring and it doesn't sidetrack a brilliant football career. Good luck to JJ.

Is it sad that it just occurred to me that he won't be on the roster when NCAA 12 is released?

Good news is we are heading towards a being able to recruit a full class again next year. Askew, Pope and Meline were not likely going to contribute much so might as well get more Dooley players on the team. Jackson hurts, but we loaded up on safeties so should mitigate the pain. I'd rather know now than midway through next season that he can't make it.

I wish JJ well and hope for the best for him and whatever situation he's dealing with. It would be great to have him back in the fall and, as stated above, would be the best for his potential future. I just hope he can be surrounded at home by some helping folks for whatever is the situation.

And...he just gave us ALL another reason to fell GREAT about our program being in CDD's hands with his quotes in the release/story.

CDD is IT!

More bad news! NCAA investigations, Chuck Smith, three others leaving and now this. I can't take anymore.

Btw Janzen's family problems have to do with his brother. His brother was the reason why he left before the bowl game.

Link??? I notice you dropped the last sentence in an edit...

What is the point of the VFL program, if you can only be a Vol with no problems? We need to look at ourselves before we criticize Janzen. What if he couldn't balance this problem and school, and decided it was best to take care of it... so that when/if he comes back, he can play this fall instead of being academically ineligible? Janzen has given us 2 years, and I believe he should be given at least the sring and summer to get his problems under control. Remember, Vol for LIFE..... not Vol for MOST OF THE TIME!!!!!!!!

Abso-freaking-lutely!!

Good Luck JJ - I pray you can get some resolution to these heavy issues.
