I still don't understand why on earth you've chosen the last two episodes of the series as a "starting point." It you're going to critique anything, then at least start from the beginning. Until then, your posts are on par with this....

Yea, I'm guessing it went something like this. Walt and her were together. Then Elliot came along and they formed Grey Matter. At some point later Gretchen and Elliot got together and she broke off whatever her and Walt were. Walt got pissed and left.

I dont remember where it was but.

Walt left her because of her family considering him not good emough. He sold his stock in the co. To buy skylars wedding ring.

I may have seen it on talking bad

Yeah I think he sold his share for 5k and bought Skylar her wedding ring. I think this was in the episode where Jessie comes to Walt's house and puts a gun to Walt's head?

I got the impression that Walter and Gretchen had an affair and he decided it would be better for both marriages if he left. Gretchen and Elliott bought Walter out for $5000 then went on to become billionaires.

I got the impression that Walt was wronged and not that he was the wrongdoer. I would guess he was romantically involved with her, they broke up and eventually Elliott swooped her up and Walt couldn't take it. That's kinda how I always saw it.

It's best explained by Walt to Jesse in "Buyout" (S5 E06). Jesse is at Walt's house before Skyler comes home and they have the awkward dinner. They have been offered $15 million by Declan for the methlamine. Walt declines to sell his share while Mike and Jesse want out. Walt tells Jesse the whole story of him selling of his shares in 'Grey Matter' for $5,000 and now it's worth $2 billion. He says he looks in up every week.

I knew he sold his stake for $5000, but I figured the hostility between him and Gretchen/Elliot had something to do with his leaving.

The closest thing I can find:

From a 2009 interview with Jessica Hecht, who plays Gretchen:

"Vince Gilligan told us exactly what went down between the characters off screen: We were very much in love and we were to get married. And he came home and met my family, and I come from this really successful, wealthy family, and that knocks him on his side. He couldn’t deal with this inferiority he felt — this lack of connection to privilege. It made him terrified, and he literally just left me, and I was devastated."

Maybe he and Gretchen split up while he was still with Grey Matter. She and Elliot got together after that. Walt met Skyler and just decided to go a different route so he sold his stake.

During a flashback scene when Walt and Skyler were touring the house they bought, Walt was against buying a starter house when they would just have to move in a year or two. It seems as if he and Skyler were married and he was still with Gray Matter at the time.

I watched the finale a 3rd time, and Todd's death is even more satisfying the 3rd time. The best part is that moron still had no clue what just happened right before Jesse wraps the chain around his neck.

Started from the beginning again last night. It's crazy to see how much Walter changed, from where he killed Crazy 8 with the bike lock, to putting ricin in Lydia's tea, and killing Todd's uncle. Complete transformation, a metamorphosis if you will.

I will be buying the barrel set when it comes out.

There was an episode early on in the series that showed a younger Walt and Gretchen sort of "courting" and making plans in a classroom or laboratory. It was obviously a flashback moment and was trying to explain the genesis of their relationship plus how it changed with Grey Matter.

Think that was the episode when Walt and Skylar went to their house for a party. When they offered to pay for his treatment.

I caught that episode during the marathon. Skyler let is slip about the cancer and Gretchen invited them to a party they were having. They offered Walt a Job to come back to Grey Matter so he could get the health insurance. Walt got angry and turned them down.

That's what it was. Been a while since I have seen that one. Iirc, Walt ended up using Gretchen to cover up the costs telling Skyler that they were paying or something along those lines. Remember it being forced upon Gretchen to play along in his lie.
