Agreed.
I believe that he genuinely wanted to be here, and be the coach of the Vols. I had high hopes for Butch. I knew he was coming from a different situation, but I wanted him to succeed. Even when he made bone-headed coaching mistakes I just chalked it up to inexperience. When he didn't go for two and blamed it on 'the Chart', I knew he was over his head and his tenure was doomed. I for one would be glad for him to take another job. I can't stand the thoughts of him working for the Bammers...
Butch tried and failed here...I get that. But if HE were a little more humble in his defeat I could handle it. But to dance around and suck on Saban turds and rub our noses in his failure.....no I have to still hate him. What would you have him do?
He was on the team that won, so he got to smoke a cigar.
Ya'lls hatred of a guy that you loved a mere 3 years ago is pretty childish.
I do wish him well. There is no doubt he tried harder to be successful in his role at HC here than pretty much anyone posting on VN does at their chosen profession. Obviously it didn't work out but for you guys to carry this much hatred around more than 12 months after he is gone borders on obsession.
We all wanted him to succeed at TN. Many didnt even know who Botch Jones was. Why did you have high hopes? Nothing he did led anyone to believe that Botch would have have high success at TN. The dude got beat by Dooley. Now to the main point.
Now we know, Botch Jones didnt really want to be here. How do we know? Because of his sabotage of this program. We thought that Dooley left the program in bad shape, but Botch did much worse.

And you do you, no harm in that or the posters that disagree with what you post and believe. No one one on here should ever think that they are going to change minds. I’ve read on this forum for awhile, don’t remember too many that state emphatically, that they hate Butch. See it for what it is, a way to vent sometimes.
That's where you're wrong, kiddo
"Whatever happened" Like it was some great mystery. The dude made terrible decisions in every facet of his job. A handful of talented players saved his ass, not least of which was Josh Dobbs, who literally saved his job in 14 and 15. He then hired the best DC available and micromanaged him, then the next year he hires a dud at OC because he couldn't give up his ******** infallible system. Now that we're about a year separated from Butch, I think we need a little perspective. Butch inherited a team with less talent (except O line. But even then it was several, high quality senior starters and no depth behind it) than we had this year. We improved 3 straight years. Then whatever happened between the 15 and 16 seasons happened and he lost the team and derailed a rebuild that had been going in the right direction.
I just can't hate the guy. Yeah, he went to Bama, but so what? He had an opportunity to learn from the best in the business and took it. Now look at him. He's about to get another position at a power 5 school.
Good for him. I wish him the best. He took this job when several others told us no. He had other opportunities at power 5 schools and came here. No reason to pile on the guy. Yeah, he got a bunch of money from the school. So what? UT agreed to it. That's the nature of the game.
I had been waiting for Lyle to get fired for three years. By the end of 17, I didn't care how it happened, just that it did.maybe about you... maybe
but not about the vast majority of the posters that seem to get aroused when the see CBJs name.
However, I wonder if you were pulling for us to lose as many games as possible last year?
And Kiddo... hahaha
I haven't been called that in nearly 5 decades but thanks, little fellow.
He is soaking this University for millions by not taking any high paying position. Not what most would tab as dumb.
