Seem like a lot of thought and work to not consider Burns will play next year.Okay, you act like Pons and Johnson are good enough to handle those minutes. Here’s how I broke it down with Grant leaving
Top Six Last year
Grant- 32
Bone- 33
Admiral- 32
Turner- 31
Bowden- 28
Kyle- 24
That is 180 minutes/200 minutes. Fulkerson averaged 12 and the remainder would go to either Pons/Walker/Johnson. We would be losing 121 minutes.
If we have Turner average 33 minutes (what Bone did) that’s two additional minutes for Turner. If we give Bowden Admiral’s minutes (32 minutes) that’s an additional four minutes. Six extra minutes.
We still have to replace 115 minutes. Let’s go ahead, assume James is good and give him 30 minutes.
That’s 85 minutes.
We still have 85 minutes to replace. Let’s go ahead and assume Burns is decent. He takes Kyle’s 24 minutes.
That’s 61 minutes to replace. Both Fulkerson and Pons averaged 12 (I would venture to say Pons averaged much less than 12 during SEC/tourney play but let’s just keep it at 12). So combined they play 24 minutes.
That’s 32 minutes to replace. So basically we need to add another SEC quality starter to cover those 32 minutes or hope Fulkerson/Walker/Pons can somehow cover those extra minutes. Or get a decent grad transfer for 15 minutes and still hope Pons/Fulky can play 20 minutes per game.
None of that is optimal.
Basically you have way more confidence in our bench players than I do.
I disagree.
Well then you are arguing with Rick Barnes' history of proven development. Literally our top 6-7 players this year were not highly sought after and developed greatly. That takes time in the system.
You essentially saying Barnes development won't work here. That's foolish and childish.
Amazing how many people are acting like the world is falling because of Bone's departure. It definitely sucks but this isn't like Barnes first year where he had to deal with Richardson, Stokes, Darius Thompson leaving school to Draft and transfer.....
Our roster is in great shape and recruiting is filling in the losses with better recruits than when Barnes started and took any recruit who would say yes.... This is what happens to good programs.
Would Bone, Turner, Bowden, James be better than Turner, Bowden, and James? Of course.... However, having the latter isn't some massive drop off.
All of our top six showed promise as freshman and definitely as sophomores. Fulkerson is at least a rotation big so not overly worried there. But there is probably a ceiling on him. I don’t know if he’s a starter. At least a capable one. Do we think he can be as good as Kyle? I have doubts.
We haven’t seen Burns play. Pons and Johnson have never shown to be consistent. Kent probably never plays a worthwhile minute here. Plus we are bringing in two freshmen with James that aren’t expected to play in year one.
I’m not too concerned with the development moreso than I am if Barnes missed on some guys.
Not sure...but i think he's referring to the two freshman coming in with James...not James himself.Kyle had a bad second half of the season and stayed in foul trouble. Fulkerson is the same build with better hops. He will only get better.
And I am going to stop this right here. The fact you are saying James won't be expected to play in year one is downright laughable and really shows what little credibility you have..... Yikes!

I get more of a sense of false bravado from his comments in that article, in that regard.. It sounds to me like he is (over)projecting confidence in his decision to stay in the draft, while stating multiple times that he has the option to come back. Not sure why that was necessary to mention if you’re certain that you’ll stay in the draft. I just didn’t get the sense that he truly possesses the type of confidence in his immediate NBA future that he is exuding. He's pretty clear he isn't coming back.
I was literally just about to post this. That it may be moreso an attitude he wants to project to NBA teams about his confidence and determination.I get more of a sense of false bravado from his comments in that article, in that regard.. College basketball players don't really go to class in the spring...
Well someone should have told Jajuan Smith! He was supposedly my biology lab partner in my spring semester biology class! This is not correct. I think there is a 6-hour minimum to stay in school, but finals aren't for a few weeks. If Bone all of sudden quit going to class, or not taking his finals, he's gone.
I've always wondered if UK's one-and-done show up for their final exams-- probably not.

The good thing is that they will be working on their game nonstop until June trying to show out.I can't wait to see the melt down when Grant puts out his video tomorrow? Or when Bowden declares for the draft too! Turner may even do it. YOU HAVE TO DECLARE to be officially evaluated and given feedback and a draft grade from the NBA. you can only do it once in your career. These guys are all juniors and this is their only chance to do it prior to being a senior. Is there is a chance that Bone shoots up the draft boards after teams seem him workout? Of course, but there is just as much of a chance that he gets a grade of late second round or undrafted and comes back. Anytime you have a season where you win 30 games, win 19 straight, and hold #1 for weeks, you are going to have to deal with this problem. Its a good problem to have. The worst part about the deal is that we won't know anything about their real decisions (unless they officially hire an agent) until June as that is the deadline to stay in or go back to school.
