Bone declaring for NBA draft

I think he's going to show out in workouts and honestly the offense we run doesn't allow him enough freedom to excel at the highest degree imo

The Open floor in the nba should help him tremendously. Probably one of the better athletes in the ncaa.

It also seems like he is going to err on the side of leaving... I don't think he needs much encouragement from NBA player personnel directors.

Yes it actually does because we just lost 35 minutes of a guy who plays PG. Which means 35 minutes a game just opened up on the wing because Turner and James will have to take all the time there. That directly affects Pons and Johnson.

And we have one PG. We’ve had multiple posters who believe that Pember needs a RS and Gaines won’t contribute as a freshman. If we lose Grant, we lose 4 starters and have one freshman coming in expected to get immediate PT.

This isn't rocket science. Losing Bone for good, which isn't certain now, means we open up a spot and grab someone to fill minutes....

Turner takes over PG and replaces Bone's minutes / If Bone winds up not coming back- additional spot open means we grab a grad transfer guard.
James takes over SG and replaces Turner's minutes
Bowden takes over SF and replaces Admiral's minutes / Pons still comes off bench with same time
Grant staying, YAY / Grant leaving, let's not go down that road / DJ Burns still comes off bench
Fulkerson/Walker combo take over Center (my money is on Fulky) and replace Kyle's minutes.

Amazing the sky is falling attitude by some.

I wouldn’t laugh. If Grant leaves, the program will take a huge step back with only three guys coming back that have played consistent minutes in conference. And one of those guys (Fulky) isn’t exactly all conference.

I like Bowden. I love Turner. I don’t like either as the #1 and #2 scoring options.

It's a reasonable take if grant leaves as well but that wasn't the context.

Bone is worth a couple wins not more imo

If Grant stays? This is still a top 5 seed next year.

Sounds like he had mind made up and didnt need to talk with Coach Barnes .. maybe he is tired of Coach Barnes critique ..... probably better to go this year .. he has gotten alot of pub by how much he has improved ... from hard work and COACH BARNES !!!!! Probably at least should have had a discussion with CRB and he may have .....

His stock? He’s not on any draft boards. I doesn’t have much to lose by returning

The mock drafts are all over the place. Tankathon has Grant Williams at #16 and nbadraft.net has him outside the Top 60.

Obviously, Bone should not sign with any agent but if he has good enough workouts to get a 2nd round guarantee, that may be better than coming back without Grant, Kyle, and Admiral.....

Jordon Bone's jump shot is NOT GOOD ENOUGH for the NBA and his decision making (IQ) is questionable at times, but nothing wrong with attempting to see where you will get drafted and betting on yourself to succeed.

Okay let’s break this down by math. If Bone comes back

Bone- 35 minutes
Turner- 30 minutes
Bowden- 30 minutes
James- 25 minutes

Fulkerson- 30 minutes
Burns- 25 minutes
Pons- 15 minutes
Walker- 10 minutes

There’s your 200 minutes you need. Now take away Bone’s 35 minutes. Even if I give Turner, Bowden, and James another 5 minutes each I still gotta find an additional 15 minutes somewhere. You trust any of the last four I mentioned to handle additional minutes right now?

Without Jordan Bone and Grant Williams Tennessee will win 18-20 games and it wouldn't shock be if Tennessee went to the NIT in 2020.

If you take out nbadraft.net, which hasn’t been good in years, Grant is consistently in the top 30 in draft boards

But if he doesnt ..which is expected ... we failed miserably in getting depth in the low post ... we will be awful inside next year .... hope there are some grad trasfers looking for time ... our bigs Fulky , Walker and Burns ( jury out) have NO scoring ability ...

I expected Bone to at least take this route. He should show out in a workout form, as his athleticism is off the charts. Now there have to be serious concerns about his shooting ability, but the rest of his game is there. He isn't on any mock drafts to this point, but that's mainly because he didn't have any hype going into the year. Still if he's only going to be a mid 2nd round pick, I would certainly come back for another year. Less guaranteed money, less of a chance to show your worth. If he is a first, I'd go ahead and go if I was him.

I agree with you. I'm just saying that draft boards are all over the place right now. My original thought remains the same..."Did Bone come across as adamant about not coming back because he already knows what Grant will do"

By the way, why you get rid of the Becky Lynch avi?

Here's the problem with your sketch, you don't have to replace Bone's minutes, but you have to sort out the bench minutes.

Turner replaces Bone's minutes at the 1
James replaces Turner's minutes at the 2
Bowden replaces Admiral's minutes at the 3

The only thing you are having to replace with that is Bowden's 6th man minutes which would be Pons and some potential grad transfer if Bone leaves resulting in an unaccounted for opening. So even if you kept Pons at the same minute count, you only have to make up 10-12 minutes to fill since Bowden averaged 27 per game.

This isn't hard or controversial to do. The only place where minutes need to be replaced are the bench.

Fulkerson is going to get more minutes, along with Walker, due to Kyle's departure.
