I didn't say there wasn't room for improvement - just reacting to the dismissal of the two efforts against NW and UGA as being acceptable bad days.

it is just strange to see some folks on here dismissing 'bad days' when many raked the UT coaching staff over the coals due to 'bad days' against better teams.

I personally have no idea if he is good enough or not. I will leave that to those who are responsible for the hiring to decide.

We gave up 444 yards to Georgia and 31 points. They gave up 327 yards and 24 points. And we have better athletes. I know the situations are different. But I don't think their "bad day" was any worse than ours.

Go back and look at Chizick"s record... it started great, but has been mediocre at best. Imo, teams figured out the Tampa 2 defense that he learned from Kiffin and Lovie Smith (he played for Florida and early on in coaching career studied them)

I know Iowa St does not have good resources, but even considering that he failed at Iowa St miserably.

If Shoops is wanting to be a HC someday, he may feel that Tn would give him a better chance. I say that because I think Tn has better chance at making playoffs than Penn St does (at least in near future), which would give more attention to him if defense does well.

As much as we hate to admit it, you can't argue with Saban's success at Bama. But look at his career prior to taking over at Bama. He had 1 good season out of 5 years as coach at Michigan State. He had 2 great years out of 5 at LSU, most notably the NC in 03. That was his 4th year so all yhe players were his and he was recruiting well. In the 9 years at Bama, only his first year was bad. The other 8 have unfortunately been superb. What was the difference vs the first 10 years as a college coach? The level of talent. So a not the best coach, became something special when he got better talent.
My point is, if it is Shoop, Chizik, or someone of equivalent ability, they stand a good chance to become great with the talent upgrade they will inherit on our defense. We are Tennessee. We will succeed. We will win.
