Birmingham News (AL.com) All-SEC offense -> Dobbs, Weisman

is it really? i don't think it's an indictment on Hurd as much as it is recognition for chubb and fournette.

I get it, he's a great back. But the guy didn't even have a full season last year and he still hasn't rushed a down yet this year. He could come back and never fully recover.

well, it's a pre season all sec team. there'll be a 2016 all sec team after the season....

there's probably folks in oxford ready to go to Birmingham and burn the paper down b/c Dobbs is 1st and not Kelly...

and i'd say they have a better argument than we do with Hurd over the two they selected.

Fournette yes, Chubb no, at least not right now.

it's pre season. and right now there's no reason not to think chubb won't have a big year. he's a name brand, everyone knows. if he's not healthy or the o line regresses or the coaching transition takes it's toll....it'll bare out this season.

until then...who cares? does Dobbs being 1st team qb really mean anything more or less had he been 2nd or 3rd team pre season all sec?

Or it could read "its preseason and right now there's questions as to whether Chubb will be the same player he was in the past."

You're right, who cares. But the players read these lists and put chips on their shoulders when they feel slighted. Hopefully Hurd uses it as motivation to take over as the best back in the East. Although Hurd has plenty to play for right now.

this isn't the "aw shucks" team anymore. if they, or he, NEEDs this kind of stuff to motivate, we're in trouble.

if they want to use it as additional fuel...fine....post it in the locker rooms, hang a banner...whatever.

but this team should be to the point where they shouldn't need external motivation. it's kind of the same deal with the Tabor tweets. who cares?

as you said, they all have plenty to play for already.

Nailed it. One other standard, if all things are pretty much equal, win and you're in.

I agree with you. Never said he NEEDS it, just that it could be used as motivation.

And championship teams/players use external motivation all the time. Just read some of the interview transcripts from Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Steph Curry. They don't NEED it, but it damn sure fires them up.

using it and needing it are two different things, i was just making the distinction.....

we're on the same page.

The single biggest omission I see is Trevor Daniel. First team pick JK Scott (AL), with 44.2 ypp, and Second teamer Johnny Townsend (FL) with 45.4 ypp, are both good punters. But Trevor Daniel not only beat their averages by a bit (45.7 ypp), he also made his best punts at really key points in some of the games.

And the writer absolutely got Townsend's write-up wrong, when he said that Townsend "averaged a league-best 45.4 yards per punt,...third in the country and first in the SEC." Drew Kaser of A&M had the highest SEC average, at 47.5. Trevor was second. Townsend third.

remember the only purpose to anything with "pre season" in the title is to provide fodder for folks like you and i to rip apart and argue over.

past that......we don't get to add any points to the score b/c of pre season anything.....:p

If you think Hurd is better than Fournette and Chubb then you need your head examined.

i'll respond to this the same way i responded to him...does it really?

Hurd's skill set is different than Chubb's, similar to Fournette, and the only thing that either of them seem to have over hurd would be top end speed....5th/6th gear.

i'd take hurd over chubb from a physical standpoint.

i'd be hard pressed not to take Fournette over him, but i don't think the gap is so great that anyone would need anything examined for at least putting it out there.

bottom line...and i think this is where you probably fall...being 3rd on that list isn't exactly awful.

none of them suck.

Ahead of him in what? Games played? Chubb's body of work is more impressive than Hurd's and shouldn't be punished for his knee injury.

Given equal offensives lines over the same time period I would take Hurd or Fourenette and not look back. It's really 1a, 1b, and 1c with all three of them.

I think the biggest thing holding back Hurd at this point was the patchwork offensive line he had to work with.

Ahead of him in the fact that Hurd is fully healthy behind an even more experienced OL, while Chubb is coming off a terrible knee injury and hasn't taken a snap since the surgery. So yes, excuse me if I think Hurd is the better back RIGHT NOW.

Body of work has nothing to do with who will be the better RB in 2016. That's all we're talking about here.

I agree. Hurd is as good as any RB in the country. Even Fournette.
