BIG WIN LADIES!!!!

Congrats to the Lady Vols for taking care of Geno's team!!! I knew we were going to win when I saw our big step out and hit a 3 toward end of the 3rd quarter. Just as our coach said the Lady Vols wore them down and beat a good Huskies team. We were just better. That has to be tough on the UCONN ladies eating their Wheaties this morning.

We (UConn) played like hot garbage tonight. LVs took full advantage of it. That run of yours killed us in Q3.
Why yes, yes that run did kill you., Our big stepping out and hitting that 3 putting us up by 7 or 8 took the wind right out of you.

Nah, you’re right tbh. This season we have shown up for zero big games. Paige and Azzi should be a deadly combo. The fact is that they are not. Whether it is due to mental issues from so many injuries, who can say. And does it matter.

LV clearly the better team tonight. Battled back after the half and never took their foot off the gas. Makes me want to puke
… but objectively, as a WBB fan, it’s true.
Truth be told, Paige is not what Geno has blown her up to be. Her teammates know it as well.

UConn seems to be a one-player team at the moment, and that one player is Paige. They had ample chances to put the game away like they used to. This year's LV team is a better team than they have played in the past. They shoot the three well. Puckett had a good game as well, with some big 3s. It seems as though Geno isn't having Women's basketball all his way anymore.
Balanced scoring on the UT side one hit wonder on the Huskie side. Paige is good, but she ain't aaaaaaaaasallllll; that.

Great win for the Lady Vols. I was refreshing the score on ESPN with angst and excitement. Yay!

Regarding Geno, the advantage of recruiting with the rise of other schools and the portal, the slow change of how "kids" are, and the difference in game play have maybe dulled the sharp advantages he once had. He also has an assistant (no disrespect intended) that has been alongside for him 30+ years and another that's 17 years in. If he's not seeking out younger coaches with different mindsets and/or ways of looking at the game, it may be starting to show. His results will never discount his ability to coach, but his current results may show a resistance to change. Pat had some instances of stubbornness during her time.

I was able to find this article regarding such Lieberman: Learning Curve.

Anyway, go Lady Vols! I wish they could find a TN alum to call the game alongside Lobo. I think it'd be more interesting and less frustrating.

Does anyone remember why we didn’t play last season? I feel like it was a scheduling issue for them but can’t recall.
After playing in the historic rivalry with UConn the last four seasons, it's unlikely Lady Vols basketball will play the Huskies in the 2023-24 season.

UConn revealed most of its nonconference schedule for next season last week and Tennessee was not listed. At the Nashville stop of Tennessee's Big Orange Caravan tour on Wednesday, Lady Vols coach Kellie Harper said she didn't think they'd be able to play UConn in 2023-24.

"I think we just have some scheduling conflicts," Harper said Thursday at the Big Orange Caravan stop in Knoxville. "But I believe we're going to try to continue it after this season. Sometimes you have contractual obligations, facility obligations and it just doesn't work out. But we're gonna try to continue that."

Interesting. Sounds like she didn’t want to play them. Thanks.

That was a very non-specific answer. When you’re 0-4 against them I can see not wanting to schedule them. She definitely knew she was on the clock all of last season imo.

I noticed that Holly never played them. Maybe it had something to do with Pat’s wishes not to continue the series?
Was Kelli involved with bringing the series back or was it from the higher ups?

Remember Archie Bunker? Yeah, called his son in law Mike, Meathead. You really should read, if you are capable, the game threads from the games the Lady Vols lost. Actually, I’d bet a careful review of this game against UConn would be sufficient to find plenty of negative comments about Lady Vol play and execution, even down the stretch of the game we won. @maple is a welcome guest and has been a regular poster since before the season started.

So. Either read the room or crawl back under yer rock. Or both! 🤙🏼
Not to choose a side in this argument, both bring out valid points and both went a little overboard. Big bad shouldn't chastise another poster like that. But, Maples particular post wasn't complimentary to the lady vols. He/ she came to the conclusion that U Conn lost because they played terrible, not because of how well the lady vols played. U Conn was leading at halftime. Did they played like "hot garbage" the first half? CKC made adjustments at halftime on both ends of the court and the LV's got a lead.

It sounds like you 100% did choose a side.

Holly is the one who got the ball rolling to restart the series. I was torqued when she did. It was announced her last season we would be playing them again. She would have gotten smoked. Her teams were so weak.

Only reason she didn’t play them was her firing.

UCONN isn't good enough to win it all this year and don't see them being any better next season. Geno is going to go a full decade without a title!! A full decade! If someone would have told me that I wouldn't have thought they were crazy, following UCONN 4 peat. Excited for the future of Lady Vols basketball!! Glad 16K showed up for UCONN. I hope senior night gets even more. Time for the fans to keep showing up and get this team to a top 4 seed to be able to host. No more losses at home.

You are either rising or falling and it’s easy to see which direction Geno is headed and which direction Kim and the Lady Vols are headed.

You know that clip wasn’t from last night and the post wasn’t from ESPN.
Didn’t say it was from ESPN it’s from barstool but SAS works for ESPN. How do you know it’s not last night’s game?

Hey, I need to give a praise to Caldwell on the time out situation last night. The fact that she had some left at the end, and that Auriemma kinda got in a pinch with his at the end, certainly made me feel like we had an advantage there.

But our biggest advantage was that our team played to win and NEVER appeared to me to have wavered from that mindset. Nobody looked tentative or hesitant or had scared/worried body language or facial expressions. It may have been since 1998 that I saw that in a LV team for 40.

And NOOOOO. I am not comparing this team to that 1998 squad. lol But I am saying that they somehow managed to have that same resolve and belief, and it was beautiful to see.

Connecticut is a really, REALLY good team, and this loss very well could be exactly what they needed to go on and win another natty, or at least reach another FF. I hope not, but we of all people should understand that sometimes heartbreaking losses can spur future greatness.

But yesterday belonged to the Tennessee Lady Vols. I'm so proud of them and happy for them.

P.S. Eff Ryan Ruoco, who must have mentioned how long it had been since Tennessee had beaten them 50 times. It screamed to me that his pre-game preparation work was likely all geared toward him thinking CT would win, so he probably had lots and lots of complimentary info planned to say about the Huskies, and little planned for Tennessee, and so he was a broken record.

Lobo going dead silent and not saying a single word after the buzzer is what gets me. Grossly unprofessional. Anytime she calls a UConn loss she goes silent for huge portions of the broadcast. She should not call their games if she has so little control over her bias.

No way UCONN beats SC at SC. And all 4 1 seeds will be really tough to beat this season. I will just be super giddy knowing UCONN won't win it again this season and may not again if Geno retires soon. I dont think he has more than 4 years left.
