Big O Breaks Silence..

Did you mass sub every 1-3 minutes also? Including your best players? Or is that a trivial thingy?
That wasn’t the point of the convo. It was whether our style of play would hinder the players that go to other programs. I don’t think it will and pointed out that the style of offense is used frequently. I don’t think the subbing pattern of the lady vols has any affect on their future performances.

As for my AAU team, it was a developmental team for some very athletic girls whose parents didn’t have access to travel sports. The first day of practice, they hit 3 out of 32 lay ups. LOL I taught them the dribble drive motion offense to get them use to being able to move without the ball. I didn’t press bc I didn’t feel it taught my team how to play defense. I didn’t like Zone defenses bc that is not really teaching them defense either although I used it some bc I didn’t want my girls to feel too defeated against good teams. We didn’t sub constantly although I could have bc we had 8 equally below average girls. We lost our first game 54-8 but we improved all the way to winning a championship in our last tournament. I was so proud of that team. One of my favorite moments as a youth coach.

It was the point, because CKC is doubling down on it. It’s the main point. Did you sub your best players out every 1-3 minutes when you coached? Simple question.

You replied to something that wasn’t being discussed. The subbing patterns were immaterial to the discussion. As for your question, I didn’t but I would have if I thought it would help me win. I will be curious to see what minutes will look like if she gets some players that deserve more minutes.

So you coached. Do you think there would ever be a situation where you decided it was best to sub your top players out every 1-3 minutes? Can you go there?

I’m going to give my good friend a wide berth here. It seems to me his humor is quite often lost on many in this forum, it’s often of an intellectual nature and almost always of amazingly good wit for anyone who notices and can appreciate. But just this once I am making it known that @1reVOLver missed the mark, albeit only slightly. Cracker Jax? My good man! 😉
… I… must… resist… 🤣

I think if we could all be honest and take our orange colored glasses off for just 1 second, we could all recognize what a waste of potential it would be for Edwards to come here. As someone who appreciates the game, why would you want someone or her talent to come into a situation like this?
And I would hate for her to stay stagnant. Twins dad said as much when season ended.

I’m ok with it but think it works better at a lower level of basketball. Kim did state that she would give more minutes if players deserved it. She proved that by Mia getting 35 minutes in some games and others getting 30 plus. I love when she gets pissed off and sends in a new group of girls although wish they would do more coaching of the girls that just came off the court.

It is easier to get lower level girls to buy in bc it helps them compete/win. The job she did with Marshall was amazing, imo. The talent level was lower half of their conference and they made the schools first NCAA tourney even after losing their best player early. I think her first Tennessee team played better than its overall talent bc most of the team bought in. This past season she struggled to get the team to buy in and it was a convoluted mess. I don’t think she can get enough high level girls to buy in to win a championship and that is what it is all about. I have always been curious what a team with talent like SC or UCONN would like playing this system. I will be hoping for the best but I don’t think she will be successful.

You all are crazy. I 100% want her to come here. She will be fine.

As I believe your original reply was to something I said, yes, the subbing pattern is in play here. Players become conditioned to play X minutes and not X++ minutes. They get conditioned to going as fast as their bodies will allow knowing they will get a rest to catch their breath. The way they learn to approach the game is trying to establish a rhythm within a couple of minutes.

Other teams, even when they go fast do not sub like that - players are conditioned to be able to play reasonably fast for longer periods of time, thus learn pace and flow differently. The longer period of play allows them to establish rhythm within the game. I would argue that the constant subbing doesn't allow any "flow" as by the time the player has settled into the game, they are subbed out.

These players as the move to other teams will have to relearn how to pace themselves for longer periods of play and how to establish their rhythm within the context of reacting to the play on the floor - both theirs and the play of the other team.

With CKC's system there is absolutely no reaction to what the other team is doing. None at all! The system doesn't concern itself with the other team at all. I don't think the players are even taught to care about what the other team is doing. It is just press, wear then down, don't be concerned if they score easily, shoot, shoot and shoot some more even if you miss. This is why the zone this year always seemed to throw a big curve for the players and the "the system". The team had no idea what to do with it. That is because the "system" contradicts the idea that the other team (and how dare them) try to slow the pace.

Are you curious why they don’t?
It would an interesting question for the coaches of UCONN and USC and LSU (though KM did make a comment on the system and it was not a compliment) to answer.

There did seem to be times in those games were the other teams pressed and schooled CKC on what a good press / fast-paced system looks like. But I suspect they don't run it because they understand as a coach that you have to adjust and react to what the other team is doing. The idea of just trying to ensure you get N more shots at the basket is not a winning system when playing against a good coach / team.

The interesting thing is that all those teams have the capability to score a lot of points without a system whose purpose is to do that.

Schools to watch for Big O landing spots :

1. USC where she could transfer immediately and be part of a star studded lineup with JUJU and the #1 recruit.

2. South Carolina if she is granted the release from TN. Adidas school.

3. LSU: Gabe. Would require her release and workarounds with her adidas contract. This makes this the least probable.

I’d love to see her at USC with juju. I wanted that coach a few years ago

Who were her top 5 before she committed?

SC isn’t adidas. They’re currently under armour but switching to Nike next season

1. Not enought basketballs in the world to satisfy the needs of the three ball dominant guards
2. Too much quality depth at PF/C
3. This makes the most sense. They need height and quality depth at the PF/C position.

I'm curious if the Adidas deal is a big deal.

Didn't Ament come to UT with a big Reebok contract?

Would there be enough basketballs for Fulwiley, M Williams and Coop? And would there be enough team psychological counselors?

I just really don’t want Coop to go to LSU. Even though Gabe is there, I just think it’s the worst place to try to smooth her mental edges.
