best ut reciever ever?

no McGee, no Morgan.

Pickens put up some incredible numbers on a running football team that could cram it down your throat, as did McGee.

Was Peerless even an AA?

I'd vote Pickens, then McGee. I omit Morgan only because I'm not sure what position he played. He might rank as one of our best tailbacks, instead.

ok robert meachem put up 2/3 of pickens career stats in just his junior year. But believe what you want. I made it clear from the beginning that i thought it was between price and meachem but if you thought it was someone else to feel free.

Oh, you wanted to do a statistical comparison, which is akin to comparing Bart Starr's numbers to Peyton Manning's. Not a very useful exercise.

Thats a solid point by BigOrangePassion! And Big Papa Vol, ur also right about stallworth being more Combine Hype. I still think Joey Kent was the epitome of Wide Reciever U!!! Amazing, Clutch catches every game! Miss those days...Meachem Second

Pickens was the best and I don't really even think it's close. I was pretty young, but have watched all of those guys and it's tough for me to see comparisons of Price with Pickens and McGee. Meachem, again, belongs in the conversation, but he just isn't the athlete that Pickens was and doesn't have the hands.

Pickens played at a time when the Running Game was primary and solid.
If Pickens played with Manning or any other pass-oriented offense, then his stats would be off the charts.
The Tenn Teams of the 90's and 2000's are more pass-oriented which lend to more inflated stats for the receivers. (And I am not saying the Running Game is not important, before someone tries to hijack the thread and start a ridiculous argument)

Guys, get a grip. Joey Kent is the easy winner. Check the career stats--he's the man: Most receiving yards, most touchdowns--he far eclipses Pickens. I loved Pickens (and Price), but his numbers are not close to Kent's. This isn't /who was a better pro/; this is production while at UT--and nobody topped Kent. Who can forget his 70-plus yard TD reception from Manning to open the bama game at Bama--I forget the year, but didn't it end a long losing streak to the tide? That play was electric. Kent was a GREAT college receiver.

I loved meachem for what he could do, but if people are actually voting him #1 all-time, it shows the age of this board. He was good, but not that good.

Pickens, McGee, Morgan, Kent, Alvin Harper as well

Know your history!

ok well i just watched the film of meachem and pickens and meachem is way more impressive. Pickens is good but the plays meachem made are better. The guy was absolutely unstoppable his junior yr. And thats with solid recievers like smith and swain

im talking about recievers at tennessee. Not in the nfl. Carl pickens isnt in the discussion for what he did at the reciever position in college.

With that comment :birgits_giggle: is it safe to say you're barely 20 years old:stop: ? We got the nick name "Wide Reciever U" because of WR's like Alvin Harper, Willie Gault, and CARL FREAKIN' PICKENS!

again, the statistical comparison is nearly worthless because of the massive change in UT football during the two eras. It's a bit like calling Pete Rose the greatest hitter of all time because he has the most hits. He also had dramatically more attempts and a nearly embarrassing slugging percentage as he became Rod Carew.

In that game the pass to the back of the end zone to Jermaine Copeland that went between 4 extended Bama defender arms was one of the best catches ever IMO....shame I can't find a pic on the net of it.
