Basilio saying Fulmer/Chaney want a new QB

I’m with you on Shrout although I personally don’t see him as much more than a quality backup given experience. He had an opportunity to settle in as much as he got to throw the ball. I feel like Maurer got a raw deal by NOT throwing the ball as much with the difference in offensive approach. Maybe they were thinking if he goes in sometime this season again defenses won’t know what to expect? Idk. But it was clear they didn’t want him throwing too much and I don’t think it had anything to do with trust being up so big. Plus his deep ball was on point.
Probably just the gameplan more than anything. JG only threw it 8 times with probably twice as many snaps.

JG just is filling space right now...I think the kid has topped out...he has no touch on the ball whatsoever...he throws the seam pass best of all...fly routes are about 95/10 meaning he only hits hits receivers on fly patters about 10% of the time if that much...
You'll never know if the other 2 qbs can improve if you don't give them a chance....Pruitt just needs to get with and tell the fans we're going to be putting these kids in because we are going to be playing for years 3 and 4....I think most all fans could accept that

If Jarrett Guantanamo sticks it up tomorrow he should be benched and JT Shrout or Brian Maurer be given a shot at being the starting quarterback.

Yeah, don't think the fans will accept the status quo if that happens....Pruitt will just be making it worse and worse for JG if he keeps him in.....kind of like forcing it down the fans throat so to speak and you don't do that....fans football IQ should not be taken lightly....fans know talent when they see it on the field

O line play is more than just pass protection. Our backs rushed 31 times for 93 yards in that game - there was nowhere to run.
Watching that game unfold we never looked like we were planning to establish it and in turn allowed JG to get a lot of reps. Hindsight being what it is tells us we wernt good enough to do that.

The BYU plan was very different and when JGs bad throws and decisions finally caught up with a pick and quick score Chaney shifted it even farther away from Ga St.

I dont think the staff felt like JG was going to be great but I dont think they felt like he would be this bad.

I'd argue that if your defense never can handle staying on the field for a while, then it isn't an elite defense. Any defense is going to struggle if they are hung out to dry excessively or repeatedly put in bad field position. But if they can't handle an even TOP battle, or even a slightly losing a TOP battle, that isn't a great defense.
Most elite defenses dont stay on the field for long periods of time. From a series standpoint. They dont altogether have control over how many series they re asked to play because that's dependent on how well the O is playing.

More to it than TOP. Which team is winning field position? Is the other team running more plays with tempo or stopping the clock more often? What style of offense are they facing? Are they playing with a lead or from behind?

IF UT's O had scored TD's rather than FG's on the drives between the 1st qtr and the last couple of minutes then GSU would have been playing from behind. Their playcalling would have changed and in many ways become more predictable... making it easier for UT's D.

The O simply by putting pressure on the other side to score can help the D. JG's inability to find open receivers and the O's inability to finish drives allowed a vastly inferior team to stay in the game AND start to believe they could win. That notion should have been dead by half.

I think you’re right. I know I would. In fact that alone would make the season much more exciting win, lose or draw.

Well. I do have to admit. If it were up to the fans JG likely wouldn’t have seen the field again after the first half of GAST given all of his issues he showed in that game were the same as in years past. According to the poll taken BM would be our starter and by now we may be in better position to beat Florida. Just because they are making the millions to coach doesn’t mean they’re always right. Doesn’t mean we are either. But Butch was making millions as well to make the same “right calls” and Kamara and Dobbs were on the bench. Way too much stock put into coaches making the right call and not enough into a football savvy fan base.

The only thing that allows them to stay in the game was six runs of ten plus yards and 9/10 on third and fourth and short.

The only thing that allowed them in the game was line play.

Lying again huh? It is really fun drawing you out and making you a repeated liar.

You are clueless. You literally don't understand the game. We talked all off season about JG's deficiencies. You denied he had them. Now from coaches, to announcers, to writers, to fans... EVERYONE is talking about them. Yet you still desperately cling to the idea that you can blame others. Your hero worship is pathetic. It really is. There's a difference between being a fan and a cult member. You are definitely the latter.

When you run a whole bunch of guys out on D that have never played in college before... you really need your 4th year QB to act like a 4th year QB. You need him to make some plays, find the open receivers, and score points. You need him to take away the clock and put the D in a favorable place just like my last paragraph above states.

And I keep telling them over and over and over that the Tennessee fans for the most part know talent and ability when they see it play out on the field...we know who has it and who doesn't...
This is year 2 and it doesn't take the fans that long to understand the problem....
Put every freshman in that can hadle it and play for next year and beyond. Find out this year who wants it and who doesn't...If JG does poorly tomorrow you'll never be able to blame it on anyone else again....We've seen what we've seen and we know what we've seen when we saw it !!!!!!

There are VERY few instances when I think an AD should go in and dictate a change to a HC. This is one of those instances. Fulmer should have a private meeting with Pruitt and tell him to play Maurer. The Vols have two weeks to get him ready to play. He'll make mistakes. But it won't be because of indecision. He'll make the kinds of mistakes that can be corrected and have him playing well by the end of the season.

JG has hit his ceiling and it is WAY too low to win. He simply does not do enough things well to be difficult to defend.
