Basilio gonna have Lane Kiffin on

Looking back at the Kiffin hire. It is obvious that UT has not made a hiring play like that in the last two coaching hires. Lane was brought in as a staff play and he assembled a hell of a staff here: Monte, Ed O, Frank Wilson, hell Jim Chaney was a good coordinator here after Kiffin moved on. Kiffin has 0% chance of coaching in Knoxville again, but I believe we will see Lane Kiffin get picked up sooner than later by a bigger program. Arkansas could make a splash with him. The guy is bogus but at the end of the day people want to win football games and with the right DC, he can deliver a product on the field.

I agree with you . Kiffin is gonna get a big job soon and he is going to roll. All us Vols will be singing the blues because we were to butt hurt to consider hiring him.

Bring Lane Home

This ain’t his home. He did everything he could to piss all over everything Tennessee Volunteers football. He’ll never sniff another opportunity to coach here and that’s a great thing. To hell with him.

That's pure conjecture. He flopped at USC. He has not proven he can lead a program. Also, the reason he will not be considered by Tennessee has more to do with things he did while he was here than it does how he left. It's not "butt hurt". UT had to self report 23 rule violations in the 13 months he was the head coach. That is unacceptable by any standard. We were placed on probation as a result. The Orange Pride (Lacy Pearl Earps) recruiting trip to South Carolina was especially embarrassing. Our administration hasn't forgotten.

Seriously? Can you recall two years ago when Tennessee had a 14-13 lead with under 3 minutes left in the game in Tuscaloosa?

3 minutes is an eternity in college football. What I actually recall was a valiant tired Vol defense and the Tide offense along with the eventual Heisman winner with the ball at the end of the game gashing us systematically for an easy win. Kiffin's Vol team had the ball and to kick a FG for the win on the last play of the game. That's a far cry from 3 minutes, try again.

No, I remember the games. I don't have to try again. Tennessee had a late lead in 2015 and never had the lead in 2009. Calling that an easy win is stupid. They had to recover an onside kick in 2009 to even get a chance at the last second field goal which we all know wouldn't have been good even if Cody hadn't blocked it.

The 2009 season was at least fun. And be honest VN, until 8:45 PM on that fateful night, the vast majority on this board really liked the guy. If Cody hadn't blocked that field goal, it would have been a win for the ages.

Think that if you want... but there is no way in hell he would have made it anyway.

Honestly, that's a piss poor argument/attempt at a rebuttal. Also, I have no idea why you're trying to argue the nuances of moral victories.

Oh, I agree. I was just pointing out how so many people here make such a big deal out of Lane Kiffin's 2009 team playing Alabama a close game. You could say the same thing about the 2015 team - in fact, the 2015 team even had a late lead. Bottom line: They both still lost.

2015 was much more talented than the 2009 team.

Tony has always had a huge man crush on Kiffin...so I don’t expect many hardball questions

Yeah but why would he bust Kiffin's balls when the established norm in knoxville for media is cowardice.

Basilio is different but the hard question of the day would have been for Butch, and it would have involved A certain traffic stop. But Butch never accounts for anything so its not surprising it was delayed till after the press conference. Still a reporter with balls could have asked.

I believe if Kiffin had stayed he would have done well. I believe he is an excellent recruiter and coach. His personal life and the way he left would probably prevent him from ever returning, but I believe UT would do well on the field if he were the coach. I believe USC was his dream job when he left and that he did not expect the sanctions to be as hard as they were. The recruiting sanctions negated some of his natural advantages as a recruiter. He did well as the offensive coordinator for Alabama. We were competitive on the field when he was here, with limited talent and had he stayed the talent on the field would have been better. He probably has wondered "what if" in in mind. Rarely do we get another chance to go back.

The NCAA would have hammered him. His recruiting was horrific. He lost several games with a team loaded with NFL players. He ran off or lost 45 players or commitments.
This program would be worse then it is now had he stayed. By far

The roster was totally depleted, he was one 240lb center away from beating Bama, and he put Crompton into the draft. Not bad IMO.

HE depleted it. He lost 45 players and commitments. Many of those played in the NFL. His one year

Eric Berry S 1st 5 Kansas City Chiefs
Dan Williams DT 1st 26 Arizona Cardinals
Montario Hardesty RB 2nd 59 Cleveland Browns
Jacques McClendon G 4th 129 Indianapolis Colts
Chris Scott OT 5th 151 Pittsburgh Steelers
Jonathan Crompton QB 5th 168 San Diego Chargers

2010 draft after he ran off many

Luke Stocker Tight end 4 104 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Denarius Moore Wide receiver 5 148 Oakland Raiders

All the OL that year played in the NFL except the center who would have but he got benched because he threatened to beat the hell out of Orgeron one day in practice.

And Kiffin had nothing to do with Crompton. Jim Chaney told me that it wasn't him nor Kiffin. He said Kiffin's brother in law gets all the credit.

The 2009 recruiting class of Kiffins saw many lost commitments from Phil's class that was ranked #3 in the country at the firing. Several of those are in the NFL. Including a silent commit in Brown who went to Georgia and is still in the league.

Your facts need work

2009 OL

Jacques McClendon G 4th 129 Indianapolis Colts
Chris Scott OT 5th 151 Pittsburgh Steelers
Luke Stocker TE
Josh McNeil would have been but he got in trouble.

Plus Jeff Cottam played in the league and one other lineman I forgot.

I never thought we’d win that game until the pass that got us to the 28. Then, when I saw that Lane was going to let all of the time tick off, about 45 seconds as I recall, and kick it from there, I gave up. I knew we weren’t winning before the snap. We needed to be closer. That was made clear earlier in the game.

IF UT is turned down by the 1st 3 or 4 offers for HC they will talk to Kiffin and offer him a low money contract with Cause in it to fire him at anytime if he does anything UT don't like and he would take it in a heartbeat.

Tony has the best sports radio show in the south.Much better than the snooze.

I find Tony both good and bad.
Serious adult acting Tony can do very good interviews and be very good with co hosts and callers.
Silly immature Attention Deficit Disorder Tony that screams and jumps from subject to subject is hard to listen to.
You generally get both Tony’s every day.
