Basilio gonna have Lane Kiffin on

You guys talk about Lane Kiffen like an exgirlfriend. He left for his dream job. Any of you would do the same thing. He came into a job on the decline. Salvaged a season and got an opportunity that he couldn't pass up.

I'll never fault the guy for that. Y'all keep being salty and whining but really he left the country bumpkin girl for a LA supermodel essentially.

I'll tell ya now. I love Tennessee to death but if you gave me more money and the opportunity I'd live in southern Cal Any day of the week.

I think very few blame him for leaving for the situation that he was offered. It's the way he left that has people salty. He snuck out in the middle of the night without taking questions and tried to pilfer enrolled players under the table.

He's a douche no other way to put it. The guy knows offense and is ten times the play caller that we currently have.

Life consists of making mistakes. It does seem as though he has matured and somewhat learned from his mistakes. If he indeed has became a better man, his offensive mind could take us to an elite level in no time. I wouldn't be opposed to that! He was still pretty young and everyone deserves a second chance, IMO.

He won 7 games here.

He failed at USC.

What has he “won” as a HC instead of an OC?

He won those 7 games with two walkons playing on the OL and a head case, literally visiting counselors, as his QB. He took Bama to the last play of the game at Tuscaloosa with a chance to win it. I can't recall when we've had anyone in recent memory play Saban's Tide like that on The Hill.

We could do a lot worse than Kiffin--we are now--and the next coach could be more of the same. We certainly need to hire somebody with some certified offensive expertise, which has been sorely lacking with the current regime.

I know that the NCAA is becoming more liberal about having associate staff in the AD but if Kiffin came back we would have to have a full time assistant coach with a bail bondsman license.

Which of the 4 segments on his podcast list contains the Lane Kiffin call?

Or are you saying Kiffin bailed and didn't come on Basilio?

I'd like to have him back....He knows Alabama, and would bring a lot of offense here...
And yes, he would bring problems too, but we would win again.

Moral victories dont count. We still lost to Alabama. Doesnt matter who was playing or by what score. A loss was a loss.

Not entirely true. The losses we took to Bama these past 2 years are another level of losing. We didn't even put up a fight last year in Knoxville and this year wasn't much better.

Although I'm not big on moral victories, I do expect a team that shows up competing to win. When you don't even expect the possibility of winning, that is pathetic.

Looking back at the Kiffin hire. It is obvious that UT has not made a hiring play like that in the last two coaching hires. Lane was brought in as a staff play and he assembled a hell of a staff here: Monte, Ed O, Frank Wilson, hell Jim Chaney was a good coordinator here after Kiffin moved on. Kiffin has 0% chance of coaching in Knoxville again, but I believe we will see Lane Kiffin get picked up sooner than later by a bigger program. Arkansas could make a splash with him. The guy is bogus but at the end of the day people want to win football games and with the right DC, he can deliver a product on the field.

Probably go to Florida and continue to kick us in da nutz.

You serious Clark?

YES, assuming he has learned his lesson! Kiffin is an offensive genius and can recruit his tail off. Recruits seem to really like him. I also honestly believe the USC job was the only job he would have left UT for. Unfortunately, that scenario played out. I believe he's the closest coach to getting us back to relevance for an extended period of time. JMO

It all depends on whether he's matured, or not!

It’s not the fact that Kiffin left, it’s the way he did it.

He’s pissed too many people off here and I don’t think our Administration would take him back even if he wanted too.

Which would be a smart thing to do.

Sorry, but I don’t think he deserves any sympathy.

He didn’t care then so why should he start now? Because he was a failure at USC who got ran out of town.

He deserves to feel guilty leaving UT.

The same people that wouldn't welcome Lane back are probably the same ones that would welcome Cutcliffe back. Cutcliffe left before the national championship game and again in 2007 to give us the Clawfense.

Difference is everyone knew he wanted a head coaching job, didn't leave in the middle of the night, and didn't try to poach recruits in a dirty way.

Seriously? Can you recall two years ago when Tennessee had a 14-13 lead with under 3 minutes left in the game in Tuscaloosa?

of leads in big games, and a lot of opportunities to win close games. That is been his downfall, really. We should have one the last three games against florida, and we won one of them. Not acceptable.

Oh, I agree. I was just pointing out how so many people here make such a big deal out of Lane Kiffin's 2009 team playing Alabama a close game. You could say the same thing about the 2015 team - in fact, the 2015 team even had a late lead. Bottom line: They both still lost.
