Bash Dooley here....

I would too, but what should happen to Dooley if he finishes 5-7?

That will depend on how things look. If our guys are behind him and that shows on the field, he's probably good by me.

Drop one more than that and he needs to go. No need to spend another year trying to figure it out. That would be a UT record for fewest wins in a single season. It would match what he did at LA Tech.

I can't support that.

with your odds of predicting each play and the outcome of every game this year...
When did I say I can predict the results of every game? I'm talking about the way I see his tenure at UT playing out. Not one game or one season. I could be wrong, but it's not some coin toss.

Fair enough... I just don't understand all of this premature Dooley bashing. It is futile. Everyone should give him a chance, seeing as how we all share a love for UT football and want nothing but the best for our beloved program.

The bashers should at least wait until the first has been played.... the first half, even.

If he goes 4-8, you can all tell me "I told you so."

I just hope that if we go 6-6 Dooley haters are not saying, see I told you Dooley is in over his head. Kiffin would be lucky to go 6-6 this year as well with the brutal schedule and our lack of depth. Dooley is a smart guy, he has put a good staff together the best I can tell. As long as he continues to recruit I think he will be fine. However, this is going to be a long season, but not because Dooley is in over his head.

To answer the question:

- Unless there are issues we don't know about, torching the bridge with Douglas seems like bad strategy in a state with so little homegrown talent and so little loyalty among the talent there is.

- There have been some fumbles. While they might be understandable, they can't happen. There is no room for error with Vol recruiting right now. It looks bad on you to have kids out there saying "No one knew I was there" or "I don't remember my recruiters name".

- The O&W game seemed like a waste to me. It seems to make more sense to have the 1's vs 1's and 2's vs 2's with a team that has as far to go as this one does.

- The Stephens situation wasn't good. He was needed on the roster. Maybe DD gets credit for being candid and upfront... CLK would have pretended until it was too late.

Okay now we are getting somewhere. Thanks for the answers. While I don't think those are major issues, I definitely agree that things like that cannot happen now.

If he

Everyone is giving him a chance. There is no alternative.

The start of the season will be ugly... in any case. He needs bashers to help set expectations. :p

Still, I'd rather be wrong as there's nothing more fun that watching the Vols win.

I just don't have any evidence that I'm wrong yet. He has to start compiling that. 7-5 is a good start, imo.

I think Dooley should be fired fast if he can't do the job, but one year in the situation we're in isn't enough. I could understand two if he's truly awful. By 3 years, we should have a much better indication of how his tenure will be.

And I hope everyone else, even the Dooley Haters, see it that way... I just feel like people are defending their hate for Dooley that they will be lost in it forever... haha nah, not really.

But a 7-5 season would be a great season, and here is to Tennessee and to what is hopefully a good season :salute:

Honestly, I don't think there's any way to tell right now.

You implied in both posts that you knew the outcome in some way shape or form of his "tenure"...which leads one to believe that you must have some insight into whether he will or wont win individual games, since an accumulation of individual games = a tenure.

Its not a coin toss? Urban could resign (again) tomorrow, Les could join the military, Saban could be exposed as a cross-dresser that sleeps with his sister...Tiger could miss the cut at a non-major to bang the chick driving the beverage cart. your guess is as good as anyone else's

So you're saying if all that happens, Dooley can succeed? What are the lottery odds again?

I don't think he'll win any titles at UT. Is that a legit prediction, or is it all left up to chance?

Urban as the cross-dresser seems more likely. :hi:

Nope - im saying anythign can happen, including Dooley succeeding. Pretty simple actually. What is the tenure record again?

Specific record? Can't tell you. I think it will be less than 5 years and with no titles.

Of course, you're right that there is a chance he can succeed, but let's not pretend it's 50/50.

What will the weather be tomorrow? Sun will rise in the morning with a chance of rain? Get dark sometime after 6pm? Yes, both of our predictions are legit. Does it mean either of us know a damn thing? No.

I get tired about hearing about the Dooley "upside". It's the equivalent of taking a Chicago community organizer and making him President of the United States....

Oh, wait...

The bottom line is that that nobody knows if Dooley is going to succeed or fail at UT. It is simply too early. Even if he goes 5-7 or 6-6 this season it doesn't matter. Again, we are 10 below our allowed scholarship numbers and the schedule this year is brutal. Kiffin ended up 7-6 last year with more talent and a little better schedule. We will not know after this season how Dooley is going to do, and we certainly don't know now. The man needs at least 3 seasons and then we can rip him or praise him.

I don't know what you base predictions on, but I'm not just blind guessing.
