We disagree on that point. You’re inserting a reason I didn’t give. We are never going to agree on this. And your point still implies there’s only one way to answer. In Barnes case he says no and the reason is because of the buyout. In my example the answer is no and the reason is because I felt like I should be here.
My answer is still truthful and it doesn’t have the same offensive impact.
Why does there have to be reasons why you feel any way. There are times I get feelings about things and there is no obvious reason why I feel that way about a situation, outcome, person etc. In this situation I would have just stated the reason was for the incredible fan and university support. And no I’m not offended that there was interest. I’m willing to bet that most people that are upset aren’t really upset at his talks with UCLA. I’m offended that his comments imply that he would rather be at UCLA but God wants him to be here. That’s why you see some on the board making comments like “If you don’t want to be here then leave.” That’s why my parents always taught me to think twice before you speak once because words cut and you can’t take them back.Maybe this clears it up some.
Are you offended because he was interested in the job to the point if they worked out the details he would have taken it?
or
Because he told you why it didn't work out?
The reason why that matters, your OP firmly implied your interest in the job but not being able to work it out. No different than what Barnes said.
"I felt like I should be here" has reasons why you feel that way.

EXACTLY. According to him.......and that brings us all the way back around to how people think he should have answered differently. A lot of this has to do with how much he disclosed. A different coach as well as myself probably would have disclosed less. In this case less is more. You CAN answer without offending and without leaving questions. History with other coaches has proven this true.Theres a reason he had interest to begin with. Its UCLA not ETSU
Theres a reason his interest was solid. 5 mil a year. Had they offered him 2 it changes the way he "feels".
Theres a reason why he said "No". According to him, the buyout.
He wasnt trying to figure out if he wanted to go fishing today or play golf.
It all boils down to this. You and I think and feel differently. As do most passionate fan bases.Theres a reason he had interest to begin with. Its UCLA not ETSU

When?
Please elaborate on who we have lost or will since this PC. It may swing my opinion.
Thanks.
Oh I dont think that's debatable at all.It all boils down to this. You and I think and feel differently. As do most passionate fan bases.
There’s absolutely no other way that he could have answered. The English language is so limited that it renders the speaker helpless to find multiple ways to express a point.I didn’t mean in the past 3 days. The college basketball coaching carousel is always fluid with a ton of moving parts. Unexpected jobs open all the time. Hypothetically then.... how about that? We are recruiting a guy and make it in his top 5. He likes Tennessee, our school, facilities, system we run etc ...But X coach questions Barnes level of long term commitment to our University and plays the stability card to the recruit. This will happen. Just about every time Barnes goes into a living room or another coach does they will have to answer that question and give a real answer. Not some canned stuff that he always says. He created an obstacle by talking about money (which turns people off) when didn’t have to and said if the buyout were right he would probably be the UCLA coach. Im sorry but this was time for boring coach speak not full disclosure

I believe this:
1) The buyout was what provided a DELAY in the negotiations.
2) This pause was long enough for Barnes to actually sit down and soul search as to what he truly needed to do.
3) His decision was the kids and the program that he is building.
Ergo, the buyout was the reason he isn't there, not the reason he stayed here. If not for the buyout he would have made a snap and possibly wrong decision. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
On the other hand, it could go very well with a guy like Cone who values his faith.I didn’t mean in the past 3 days. Simple put. Its never good enough for media and fans to just see the end result, which requires no additional information for obvious reasons. Its the same reason why we watch the game and not just check the score later.
Why, is always gonna be of interest. Had Barnes decided to leave, why, would have still mattered.
Was he disgruntled at UT?
Did Fulmer even make an attempt to keep him?
Did UT match or exceed UCLA's offer?
And there are a multitude of questions that spin off of those.
Not a good analogy. A millionaire looking to make a sideways-ish move vs kids (one very blue collar) looking to go from nothing to making millions and not risk an injury that would negate that.Another curious point considering.
If Williams and Bone decide to return after testing interest in the NBA, should anyone question if they want to be here?
Apparently UCLA isnt either, if that's true.

When did he say that? something I missed?
