Bailey is our QB

I thought JT's throw to Palmer, at the pylon, was nearly perfect, and could've been caught. HB needs to learn to throw that ball. Dink and dunk, moving the chains. Then Palmer is your "shot guy". He's going to win most of those battles.

Bailey will look much better next year with an offseason to learn and get his timing down. He misses some open long throws....needs to correct that. But he looks like he has the ability to hang in the pocket and go through his reads. He's also a better scrambler than I expected.
I said it 2 years ago and still think it, HB plays the QB position the same way Ben Roethlisberger played it.

Right, he has overthrown three long balls in the last two weeks so it is not a question of arm strength. You don’t need to have the arm strength of JT to be successful in college or the NFL.
Good take, completely agree. Can we take a moment to acknowledge just how strong JT’s arm is though? I’d like to have an insider’s take on that piece. We used to hear about Shuler’s feats of arm strength all the time.

Bailey should be getting 95% of the snaps going forward, imo. He's got the tools and the only way to improve the QB/ WR route timing is to stick to one QB. This back and forth with QBs is not a plan for success. JTS at backup.
not 95%, but i would say 55% him, 45% JT.....or even 50/ 50. JT needs to learn not to throw off his back foot and there are throws HB can't make right now. as far as in-game play both have the edge in each of the last 2 games so they're even. the A&M game, they both need to play the first half to tell us more going into bowl and/ or the offseason. both are good!

the more qbs u get drafted, the more and better sign in recruitment. if pruitt can win getting Shrout, Bailey, and Salter NFL contracts.......while being able to redshirt QBs one or 2 years before they hit the field......

Bailey looks as good as Peyton Manning did his true freshman season. Manning showed out in the bowl game vs. VA Tech that year but he did not look any better than Bailey with a terrific team around him most of that season. Manning had Cutcliffe of course and split time with another freshman, Brandon Stewart who actually looked better than Peyton initially. Shrout has potential too - not a bad combo for sure.

i think many of us thought that at the time. Hated to see Stewart return to his home state and wonder how things would have played out stewart won the ut qb job

I don't think the coaching staff worried too much about it, they made the right call early enough. I think Stewart played in 12 games their Fr season.

HB wasn't recruited here to sit the bench 3 years as plan B to JT. It was always going to be Bailey.

I really wonder how much he’s got in the tank at this point with the hamstring. He didn’t look great trying to get off the field after his run.
He will be healed by spring, and we will have a true quarterback battle for the 1st time. Maurer, Bailey, Shrout, Salter. May the best man win. The entire volnation should be on their knees thanking the football gods, for the end of the Guarantano era has come.

I'm just happy to see these guys getting in-game full speed reps and having game plans that were fully fleshed out and prepped for a week. Practice is great and everything, but your career will not be defined by how you do in practice.

If Bailey get that deep ball down packed then I think we might have us a complete Quarterback for the first time in a long time !

I'm really not worried about the deep ball. That's more an issue of timing and working with his receivers than arm strength. That can get better with reps in practice.

I'm torn about who's the better QB. With Shrout, more plays in the playbook are available, such as the deep out. Can Shrout's ability to read defenses be coached through filmwork? I don't know the guy's work ethic off the practice field.

Ultimately if reports are accurate (reports were not accurate on recruit JG) then Salter may be the better collegiate QB than anyone currently on the roster. I want my college QB to have a superior skill, be it foot speed or arm. JG has neither. Dobbs was a good QB due to his feet. The best dual threat QB I've ever seen in a UT uniform was Heath Shuler. If I'm looking for an NFL QB, I'm much more interested in a guy who reads defenses, makes quick decisions and can fire darts.

Sprout has the best arm out of the bunch. Bailey reads better and puts a little more
Touch in the ball. Just a shame we’re are this deep in the season to see it

Split snaps with HB and JT on Saturday:
HB 1st quarter
JT 2nd quarter
JT 3rd quarter
HB 4th quarter

Unless one of them just takes over the game.

Go into spring with a three way QB competition.

We really need to see if we can coach these back foot INT throws out of JT. If he could make some better decisions when under duress, he has the best arm. HB has the better decision making and working through progressions.

But I think you give both of them equal time unless one just takes the game over and just dominates the game.

Otherwise, the aTm game is nothing more than a second scrimmage in preparation for 2021.

He is just better. Shrout may have an edge for deep throws, but that’s it. HB makes better reads and decisions.
People say he doesn’t have the deep ball. I have not been able to watch him closely. Does he lack the arm strength altogether?
