Baggett gone

But a head coach siding with a player over the position coach can sure push someone out. Allegedly

Then it would be an issue with a coach, not the player that forced him out. People act like Da'rick is such a problem that poor little Bagget couldn't take it anymore. That isn't the case.

Exactly this guy has coached Plaxico and Randy Moss...don't think Da'Rick is the reason he is leaving.

He has been a great recruiter, but that can be replaced.

He was more than a good recruiter. He was arguably the best position coach on staff. Certainly on the offensive side of the ball. DMo, Rogers, and Hunter have all improved tremendously on CCB.

per VQ

No less than three sources close to the Tennessee football program have said that veteran wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett is departing the Volunteers' football program in what is being termed a "retirement."

Baggett will receive an unspecified amount of compensation --- it isn't being termed a buyout --- as he departs the Tennessee program. Baggett's full contract terms were not released beyond his first two seasons in Knoxville, when the former Michigan State quarterback and assistant coach earned $375,000 and $400,000, respectively.

maybe its not one player, maybe it was the coach not having his back .. maybe its a better offer/fit for him .. alot of maybes are out there, who knows?

One "maybe" it definitely is not is that a player ran him off. That is just typical illogical message board garbage.

Anyone who spins this into something positive has lost their dam mind.

Are our recievers playing so lights out that this is that great of a loss.....I mean KY's db's locked our guys down....

I think everyone is blowing the loss of an "over-the-hill" WR coach a little out of proportion...of course tis par for the course!

thank you!!!!

our receivers are not coached very well. they run sloppy routes. i have thought this was the case all year long. that is coaching. watch how Arkansas receivers run their routes. Petrino gets production and most times its not that they are the best but they do focus on fundamentals.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here....

Exactly how many true freshman--or even sophomores--run crisp routes anyway?

If you're going to fire Baggett based on that...it's a piss poor excuse. His track record speaks for itself--you can't base a decision to terminate a coach b/c he didn't get Freshman WR's to learn 100% of the route tree or get them to run great routes all the time.

He was more than a good recruiter. He was arguably the best position coach on staff. Certainly on the offensive side of the ball. DMo, Rogers, and Hunter have all improved tremendously on CCB.

He certainly is a loss... not trying to deny that...he would have been 6th or so on my list of people that I hoped would leave.

But all I am saying is we are going to be shaking up the O staff and if Baggett is ready for a break then he obviously doesn't have the drive to get us over the top next year.

We need some fresh blood in the O staff...this is just the first step IMO.

Well this just got interesting, as if it wasn't already lacking that quality. Where is he going and who replaces him?
