Baggett gone

True, but the man did play WR for the Vols.. so it may carry a little more weight than yours or mine

Didn't play for CB or DD. So not sure that carries alot of weight. We have taken the same amount of snaps under those too as Jayson has..just saying

Actually thats not really true. The only WR's producing period were Hunter and D. Rogers. IMHO they would be doing the same thing if mickey mouse was coaching them. Not a single other WR on the team has produced.

This might be a chicken and egg thing. Obviously guys like Hunter, Moss, and Da'Rick have been gifted with talent already. How much influence is a guy like Baggett really having on them?

Is it one of those deals like with Cutcliffe where he tries to take credit for players that would succeed without him (the Mannings)? Or is it one of those deals where even talented players can be screwed up by coaches, but Baggett has done a good job with the talented ones?

You are clueless.

Yea, if he's a good coach.

If not, he'll be as much of a home run as Chuck Smith and it will end in another dumpster fire.

Agreed with oklavol in another thread and now DrunkJohnny here? What is the world coming to?

He coached one of his WR's to play QB and beat UT last weekend.

I think you might want to think the Kentucky defensive coaches for that. Or the Tennessee offense.

Neal was showing some promise also. Zac got open just couldn't catch the damn ball. Is Baggett supposed to catch for them as well? Hell Arnett and Dallas were looking ok for freshmen.

Wasn't their offense that beat us it was ours.

And we don't normally start WRs at QB so it doesn't matter. At all.

Kentucky finished dead last in passing offense this year, though they were 2 last year with Cobb.

Time will tell. Assuming he is an upgrade over Baggett is just moronic at this point.

Is he retiring?

Skeeter was saying Badgett felt he wasn't involved enough in the offensive game planning. To me that is pointing the finger at Chaney. I wonder how this impacts the recruits UT has at WR who are very good.

We need to get the best coach possible. It shouldn't matter if they played for UT or not. Tee hasn't been coaching long and has yet to do anything noteworth with UK. I'm think we can do better than him.

Does anyone honestly think Tee Martin is an upgrade at WR coach if that is how this goes down?

I agree.. He might be good but he hasn't really proven anything yet. He's def not proven more than Baggett.. We have to get someone who has a proven track record of success..

He got rid of him probably by not backing him up against a punk receiver with bad attitude. That's probably why Baggett quit.
by punk receiver do you mean the only guy on the offense that consistently produced all year?

Seriously are all of you guys soft in the brain? If a wr coach can't deal with a single big headed wr when thats the nature of the position in the freaking first place you have a problem. I honestly think that whole thing is BS to be honest but lets just say it is and was an issue and did lead to him leaving. if it did he deserves to leave.

People are so obsessed with stars and resumes around here these days. Baggett might be a great coach or he might be the second coming of Chuck Smith (bad fit for this program). I don't condone arrogance off the field personally but it is part of the bushiness guys. If Da'Rick was putting up numbers like the other Rogers people would have a point here but when you are pretty much carrying the offensive load you get to talk some ish.

Someone please argue this fact for me. Did the numbers Rogers and Hunter (before injuries) put up this year surprise anyone? No they didn't. Even though Da'Rick didn't get a lot of snaps last year he put up decent numbers then and showed the talent was there. Not one single other WR on the team has done anything of note. To the point Dooley put one of (imo) our top 3 rb's at WR.

It is not like the other guys are without talent either all of them came in highly rated and have tools. Milton, Arnett the other Rogers and Dallas were all a bit disappointing. Are they scrubs or is there a development issue? Baggett might have left because he didn't feel he had enough support in which case he should grow a pair and man up. WR's were his job. if he was let go fro not producing then again I have no issue because he didn't in my opinion.

Folks jump all over Simms for never checking down but honestly neither did bray evidenced by the fact Darick had over 1000 yards and the next guy down was under 350. Rogers and Rivera caught a total of 96 balls for 1384 yards and 10 td's the rest of the team had 127 for 1527 and 8td's. WR's not named hunter accounted for 42 catches for 480 yards and 3td's.

That tells me that the QB only hit those guys when the play was specifically for them in most cases. Kentucky was a perfect example of it..they doubled him pretty much all game and the wheels fell off until they started calling plays specifically for Neal.

Scheme does not really play much of a role in that it comes down to the QB checking down and the WR's getting separation. I saw quite a few times where Bray/Simms/Worley forced balls to Da'Rick no matter what but more often I saw them look for other guys but they were covered.

When your wr's don't get separation consistently QB's are forced to throw into coverage and they are gonna do that to the guy they know can win those battles. That guy was Da'Rick. We have 2 number 1 WR's on the team as of now and not a single number 2 guy the rest of our guys are all slot guys. This is probably why we signed Croom and are going after Patterson. You put Hunter on the field and most of these problems disappear because the other WR's are put out in space against nickel/dime backs and safeties where they operate best. This also allows the QB's to develop trust in them. Arnett showed some flash and once he gets to own the slot next year will produce, the rest are meh to me.

I don't dislike Baggett and wish he had stayed to prove me wrong but not that mad about him going.

Baggett tired of Dooley not backing him up. You ever work for a boss that makes your job more difficult? It's not very pleasant.

I was under the assumption that CB was second in command under Dooley? Or was it just a fancy title that they gave him?

how long do you honestly expect to keep a guy like Baggett as a WR coach here? Most would look at his resume and expect him to at least be coaching that position in the NFL or be a coordinator in college. Throw in the fact that he didn't mesh well with others.... yeah it's unfortunate and could hurt recruiting a little, but not utterly shocking. nor a program-rattling departure.

Like who? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

Cam Newton for one. Martin had a QB school in Atlanta for a while and trained Cam and others a bit
