Aviation Discussion

Well folks. It's over. I am now unsafe (according to the pilots' union) to fly airliners anymore. My 24,000 hours of experience have left the building.

UPS calls us anytime a captain in coming in on his fini flight. Hopefully delta did something similar for you. Congratulations on a great career. Hope you get fulfillment out of the next step, be it enjoying retirement or catching a few more years in a part 91/135 gig.

Thank you for the well wishes. I don't think Delta does that. We have had and will continue to have so many leaving that it would probably drive ya'll nuts. I would like to get into the corporate world, but only on a part time basis. I think that will be very difficult though. I do have an interview to run the simulators and train pilots at DAL for 3-5 days/month. Not my ideal job, but it will pay for insurance for my wife. Holy cow, I know that many on here know first hand, but looking at the costs of health insurance really makes one appreciate working for somebody else. Even stinking Medicare ain't cheap even after having paid into it all these years.

@ATC_VOL How bad has staffing been since the shutdown at Memphis? I’m on a detail now, but I’ve checked WMT a few times and it’s insane.

I actually love the idea of consolidation. Just please place the new super centers appropriately. It’s obviously a decade plus away, if it happens at all, but can’t even imagine how many resignations will occur from force moving people.
This has not been a problem for Marines. Mandatory move every 3 years, unless you are the Commandant who has 4 years in the DC post.

Well imagine the exact opposite of a Marine and that’s what the average controller is haha. They can be a needy, demanding bunch.

Have you noticed a further decrease in the quality of trainees since ZME is a mandatory pick for the bottom of the class? Did SN come to your area? She had a great attitude while here.

Yes, very much so. It’s a noticeable difference in the quality we’re getting.

No, we haven’t got any new transfers or new supes.

Sorry, I thought I had told you I’m now in OKC doing en-route instruction.

One of the instructors here has a son who just placed and was sent to ZME. Great work ethic and attitude, hopefully things click for him there.
