Do you use the hand break? (Does car even
Have a hand break?). Good to have one when stopped on a steep incline while somebody behind you pulls up to your bumper.
Not a good idea at all IMO to rev the engine and release the clutch enough to stay on a hill. Fried clutch in older cars... maybe new cars with a manual shift have a mechanism that doesn't damage the clutch plates. Main thing though is practice. You'll eventually get the timing down where you'll be able to give the perfect amount of throttle after releasing the brake while simultaneously letting the clutch out the exact amount that won't stall the car or let it roll backwards even an inch. It just takes practice.
Watch a few youtube videos on "heel and toe shifting". Practice that.
Now watch some youtube vids on "heel toe hill start".
Then go find a country road (gravel if you can) with a rather long steep hill, like in a new subdivision but not many houses.
Start at the bottom.
Watch your rpms.
Heel toe your start to be able to feather your brake gas & clutch.
What rpm did the car start up the hill? Go 10 feet and stop.
Do it again. Heel&toe&feather while watching the rpm that will get you started with least wheel spin in the gravel and not go backwards any.
Do it over and over and over all the way up the hill. Go back to the bottom and do it again. Build "muscle memory". By time you are confidently able to start out on a steep gravel hill without going backwards and little to no wheel spin you can do it anywhere. Really. (Grass pasture hill works too)
Good luck.
Thats a good tip for beginners, but ive always held the belief if you need roll-back room, you need more practice.Good trick for when you are on a steep hill and the guy behind you pulls up about 1 foot off of your bumper...
Pull the emergency brake. It won't let you roll backwards when you take your right foot off of the brakes to move it to the gas pedal. Give it plenty of gas and let out the clutch. Then release the emergency brake and ypu will be rolling and ready to **** to 2nd. Works great in a pinch.
Mines a 2017 not sure if it makes a difference
Much appreciated!A good resource is user forums. The Motor Trend update mentioned Camaro6.
Here is the relevant forum thread, it appears the 2017 can have similar issues.
