Wranglers are cool and fun. Sadly, most drive them to convey an image.I'm probably going to buy a Wrangler soon. I wonder how he feels about that.
Wow, I've loved cars all my life, I've never had that sort of vitriol for a particular car.
Perhaps someone who aggrieved him or her drove a mustang.
I take that back, I can't stand the H2. Ultimate poser mobile. I also can't stand bro-trucks or stanced cars.

if you buy a car, truck, suv because you think it enhances or speaks your personality then you need to get a freakins life. A Mustang is a poorly built car, period. It's an attempt at a penis extension, and a bad one at that.
It's like the guy (or gal) driving a F250 diesel and doesn't even have a boat or trailer and won't even allow mulch in the bed. Thats your borderline sociopath.
Ditto on the H2.
Also add to that a Dodge Caliber/Jeep Compass/Patriot/etc. I was indifferent toward them until we got some at work (we had the Caliber version). Quite possibly the most poorly designed and poorly constructed vehicle I have ever seen...and I've been in a lot.
What started out as minor annoyance grew to absolute hatred over a couple weeks.
The problem is all of the "non luxury" brands have started charging what BMW, Mercedes, and the like charge. I remember when the SRT4 Neon came out, I went and looked at it (first car, don't judge). They wanted 25k for the Neon. I went to BMW, and they wanted 27k for the 325i. I went Bimmer.
Fast forward just over a decade, my wife wanted an SUV. Looked around at Jeeps, new Explorers (just to prove a point, not to buy) and then went to Benz/BMW again. Certified pre owned 2013 X3 with 30k miles was only $27,000. Warranty to 100,000 miles. Sold.
Now, I'm looking for a new work van. Ford wants 27k for a base Transit. Mercedes has the new Metris for 28k! My dad just got one and it's sweet. To make things even worse for Ford, their full size van is 35-45k, while the full size Benz Sprinter Worker is only 30k!
I do think Ford is the best American car company, but for the money, I'm going BMW/Benz all day. I do hear that they give you a FREE tribal band tattoo with the purchase of a new Stang though 😉
You obviously know nothing about Benz. Go to Europe and see how many taxis are Mercedes. they also have commercial vans.So you are a better person for passing judgment on those people?
There is certainly a layer of ego attached to owning a Mercedes. You'll often find that you can get most of the features on much less expensive cars from non luxury brands. Car buying is typically not a rational decision, if it was we all would be driving Toyota Camrys.
Fascinating, but I don't think you are making an apples to apples comparison.
The Ford Explorer is larger than the X3. Comparing it to an X5 would have been a much more fair comparison. Also shopping a new car to a used car(especially one which has a steep depreciation curve) doesn't really strengthen your argument to me.
If you look at a new fully dressed CR-V or CX-5 and compare it to a similarly equipped new Mercedes or BMW you will find a notable price gap. Same for the sports cars (corvette vs 911) or sedans (Toyota Avalon vs E-class). Vans are likely a different situation.
That said, I don't fault you in the least for the car choices you've made. You've definitely gone for the more interesting option you could find, and that's awesome.
The wind blows hardest at the top of the flagpole. Most things that aren't issues for Ford owners, are issues for a Benz owner. MB rates very high in JD Power. Also, I don't understand why you are taking swipes at the build quality or engineering of the mustang. The extra money you spent on a Mercedes certainly hasn't bought you reliability:

The GLK350 is done and replaced by the GLC300, which is rated by many as the best in class. The X3 and the X5 to me, are almost the same vehicle. The 5 is obviously slightly bigger, but the features and things like that are basically the same. I read some bad reviews on the 5 which is why we went with the 3. Also, the 3 drives likes a sports car, which I really liked. In 2 years, we'll probably trade the X3 for an X6. Originally we were looking for a Benz GLK350, but after driving both, the X was far superior.
I don't consider the CR-V in the same class. The Mazda is nice, but to me it's still somewhere in the middle of the ford and the Bimmer.
And as sports cars go, I wouldn't consider buying a Chev, Dodge, or Ford. They're just not for me. For the price of a new Vette, there are sooooo many better options. Porsche, BMW, Benz, Jag, used Aston Martin, etc..
I guess I'm just not a domestic guy. I do love a Ford Lightning, however.

Sure, they have ego stroking cars, but that's not the kind I own. I've driven them for the past 18 years and I'll bet you I paid less than most do for a new Mustang or F150.
You can get a Ford Focus with as many and even more features than a Mercedes, buy it is a tin can piece of crap. You can put a fancy chandelier in a shack, but it doesn't make it a mansion.
You are right, car buying is not rational, but stupid is a whole other issue.

Plus Mercedes product line spans from $33k to $200k plus. Most of the stuff you take for granted in your car is there because Mercedes pioneered the tech. they hold more patents than any other auto maker and the original patent in 1886 for the 1st auto.

I had one as a rental. Worst car I've driven. But hey, if it provides a person, good and honest transportation, God bless them.
