Auburn Job

Better than 3-7. Are you really comparing year 3 of Pruitt to Year 1 of Kiffin at a program coming off probation? You & I both know Ole Miss would have smoked Tennessees ass this season if they’d played. Ole Miss played almost every common opponent better than Tennessee.

I don’t want Kiffin as HC (he had his chance here) but I have to admit someone did a hell of a coaching job with their QB.

I don’t want either Pruitt OR Kiffin. I want a coach who knows how to win at the highest level of college football. Kiffin ain’t it.

Being reported that Billy Napier is the front runner and will or already has received an offer.

I think it's just what it looks like. They can't really lock anybody up before they fired Gus and they didn't. You really do have to fight it out.

So maybe Bill Clark is next. maybe.

Looking like AU gonna regret this down the road unless the can land Freeze, Kiffin, or Campbell.

I mean Auburn has to know they took a huge gamble betting on themselves. You share a state with the most dominant coach of all time. You also share a division with per ratio LSU puts more players from their home state in the pros as any state. And on top of that. Texas A&M is getting where they expected when they hired JimBo and with their state full of talent. Then cap it off with one of more physical outs any given Saturday that an O-Line guy like Sam Pittman will bring and 2 offensive gurus from the Mississippi schools. Any coach who takes that Auburn job will want either the same buyout as Malzahn or not worried about career suicide. Thats a tough gig right now to have top expectations. And they blew out a guy who never had a losing season. So you would have to wager a lot on yourself as an incoming head coach. And with what lower level jobs are paying nowadays more coaches are more cautious of what jobs they accept.

This reinforces the lessons of UT's past coaching searches and almost every major programs' recent coaching searches: barring a situation that demands an immediate termination (like sanctions causing conduct, other misconduct, etc.) that you cannot prepare for, you must 1) have your guy locked in before you terminate your coach or be prepared for it to get embarrassing or 2) hold on to your current HC. I think Auburn and UT's jobs are very similar--with Auburn's program in better shape with more recent stability and success and closer proximity to the fertile Georgia recruiting areas but looking up at Alabama, LSU, and A&M in the West and UT's program in shambles but with a better route to winning the division with only UGA and UF truly in the way--and the most recent coaching searches of the programs are mirroring one another. I just hope Auburn doesn't "settle" for Freeze and take him off the board when UT is inevitably shopping this year or, unfortunately, more likely next year.

Auburn HC search is turning into a public sh$$show just like UT in 2017
...and everyone thinks if we fire Pruitt we could make a good hire this year. The options are slim which is why Pruitt stays another year. It’s simply a bad predicament for us to be in.
