I've never put mayo on a grilled cheese. Don't think I ever will. Just bread, cheese, and a little butter. I like to burn the bread a little.

Try it one time. It isn't slathered on the bread, just a thin layer. It does something to the bread in the skillet you won't believe. You can use a non-stick skillet if you need to. Toasted and crispy like you can't imagine.

It's just a different type of fat than butter. But you aren't forced to do it.

I saw poor people use this method once....................and by poor, I mean college

Obviously, no one here has ever consumed a grilled cheese sammich prepared by world renowned chef JD when prepared behind the counter of his pool hall on Gay Street in Knoxville in the 60's. These were every kid's delight. When you took the first bite, mayonnaise squirted out all four side of the sandwich. Heaven on earth it was. Go heavy on the mayo to enjoy it to it's fullest.

I did Kraft's for a bit. They put out a decent mayo w/ natural ingredients. I got the one that had lime in it. But, switched back to Hellmann's.

For real.

When I was in 6th grade I went to a friend's house after school. There was a little lake (aka "pond") behind their property and she said there was a water moccasin in it. We walked around that pond all afternoon and never saw it. Hiked back to her house and she made tuna fish sandwiches. Have you ever hiked around a pond and then had a tuna fish sandwich made with MIRACLE WHIP??? uke5:

When it comes to mayo, there is no comparison. My grandfather worked for Holsum (a bread company) and I remember growing up Colonial was the enemy. lol:
