Arnett to transfer?

i think thats in the contract just so ut can pick and choose where the student athlete can play for...lets not forget that im sure a lot of time and travel expense was spent by ut to sign him in the first place...why should ut spend all the time and money to take a chance on a kid being a good player, let him play for a year and see he is a good player and then just allow him to leave and walk into a school that already knows he is a good player without spending any money or taking a risk on whether he is a good player or not...ut is the only loser in that situation.

That didnt answer my question as to why its bad for a kid to transfer to a school we recruit against.

What you just explained is a grudge or screw you policy. If thats what it is lets call it that.

I agree with Dooley here. If you let kids transfer anywhere because they are pissed about playing time you'd have mass exoduses every year. This is a line in the sand moment and he needs to draw it.

Also please explain this too me...if you are transferring because "your dad is ill" (1) why did you come to ut in first place when your dad was sick when you signed that scholly (2) when are you going to have time to see your sick dad if you are playing football anywhere (3) why does it matter if you go to a Mac school since your number reason for transferring is to spend more time with pops?

Bottom line: Dooley is right on this one. No school is going to give you an unconditional release because you can't handle playing time decisions.

MAC school? Why not any school? If the guy doesn't want to be here why tell him where he should go.

It's real simple. He can go where he wants. He just has to pay for a year of school like the rest of us did. Well most of us anyway. Why is that so hard to figure out? These kids think this World owes them. Arnett can get a student loan and go wherever the hell he wants. Instead of that he is crying about it and writing piss poor emails.

If the letter posted on govolsxtra is exactly what he wrote, I think we should release him because he sure as he?$ didn't learn anything in English class. Maybe that's the C he's referring to.

Taking everything into account I don't think we should release him. These kids need to understand and be held accountable for their signature on the LOI. If he wants to be near his family AND play football he can play for a MAC school. If his priority is to get to the NFL with the greatest exposure (I.e BCS program) then he needs to play by the rules of his LOI.

Yea I agree with that, but it looks like bad pub for the program like I said damn if u do damn if u don't.

My answer would be due to possible negative recruiting by the schools we recruit against. Lets say DA is a sophomore at a school we recruit against regularly, like UM or MSU. We are heavily recruiting a wide receiver, or anyone for this matter, that is taking visits to UT and then UM or MSU to end the year. The coaches at UM or MSU could likely tell DA to host him and talk negative about UT in efforts to sway him. Bet it happens, even at UT.

You should see all the Big 10 (principally Michigan and Mich State) homers trashing Dooley and UT on ESPN's SEC blog

DeAnthony Arnett of Tennessee Volunteers seeks transfer to be near family - ESPN

Apparently, in an effort to force Dooley's hand, Arnett gave ESPN ammo from which they make Dooley and UT out to be villains because, they say, Dooley won't release Arnett to play in 2012 for Michigan or State.

At the time the blog was issued, Dooley hadn't met with Arnett yet nor made his decision.

Little late and Dooley has decided.

**** ESPN and what they think. I was listening to the sports animal this morning and they seem to think that the reason he is doing that is to keep other kids coming in and transferring somewhere else a year later. I can't exactly state it word for word. Did anyone else hear this?

This has great potential as a gif thread.

The next time we venture into Michigan for a recruit that they are after this is gonna get brought up. The facts are irrelevant when you selling a kid on negatives in recruiting.

Im fine with not releasing a kid to a school that is on our schedule during his college career. The part about releasing him to a school we may recruit against is the bogus part. That basically means if we really want him to stay we can stack the deck against him to keep him here, or make him go to Podunk U and feel better about it. Would anyone want Arnett or any other player on the roster that didn't want to be here, for whatever reason? I wouldn't. Let him go and move on.

That sounds good. But they are the mainstream sports media in this country and when the run with something everybody sees it. It may suck, but thats the way it is.
