I have to address the Bama nonsense from several posts back because I am tired of this fiction.
1. You asked for this. You want to keep the "Third Saturday in October". Well, then accept it for what it means.
2. Name the season where losing the Alabama game cost Tennessee the SEC East. There is only one season, 1992 (Of course, beating South Carolina or Arkansas would have gotten the job done too).
3. Tennessee's problem has been losing too many games, period. Since going to the SEC Championship game in 2007, they have lost a minimum of 4 conference games every season but one, 2015. Since 2007, Tennessee is 28-25 vs the SEC East. They are 4-12 vs SEC West teams not named Alabama. Doing the math, Tennessee is below .500 against SEC opponents not named Alabama since Saban has been the head coach at Alabama.
Quit crying about Alabama.

So your point is that UT is NOT at a disadvantage right now having Bama as their annual cross over game?
I actually agree that it has not prevented UT from winning the East... but it makes UT's path to doing so much more difficult.
Not sure who "you" is... but I would gladly drop that tradition and have rotation on both games. It produces disadvantages for UT but also all of those top 6 programs over time.

It's not more difficult. The Bama game is irrelevant as long as you beat the teams in the division.
I understand the kind of scenario you all are describing.
Tennessee beats Georgia. Georgia wins the rest.
Tennessee loses to Florida and Alabama.
Georgia goes to the title game.
And believe it or not, that has happened. I don't see anyone giving back the 1997 SEC title because Florida played 9-3 LSU while Tennessee played 4-7 Alabama.
The overall point is that you are complaining about something that is currently irrelevant. It hasn't mattered. It is not likely to matter. We've been playing under the current format for 25 years and it hasn't mattered yet.
Edit: the "you" is the Tennessee fan base, the vast majority of which would like to keep the Tennessee-Alabama rivalry going. I know it's not all, but it's most, so, this argument is made really toward the people who want to play Alabama every year and then cry about the disadvantage it puts you in.
If you are in the "to hell with the Alabama rivalry" contingent, then that's a different story.
For me, a lot of this is like the Big 10/PAC 10 complaining about the original bowl alliance while holding on to their precious Rose Bowl.
That's a ridiculous statement even for you. Bama is an almost guaranteed loss for anyone right now. So UT starts every season right now with a loss and much less margin for error than UF and certainly UGA.It's not more difficult. The Bama game is irrelevant as long as you beat the teams in the division.
Apples and oranges. No one has had a run of dominance like Bama's in a very long time. No one is likely to have one like it in a very long time. It will end... but since Saban's first year... UT has basically started with a one loss handicap. And believe it or not, that has happened. I don't see anyone giving back the 1997 SEC title because Florida played 9-3 LSU while Tennessee played 4-7 Alabama.
Not "complaining" so much as pointing out an obvious disadvantage for UT right now. I acknowledged it has not prevented UT from winning the East. It just makes the path harder than what UGA or UF face on a yearly basis... which is pretty much self-evident.The overall point is that you are complaining about something that is currently irrelevant. While I somewhat agree with this..
One thing definitely more annoying than Vol fans "crying" on a VOL FAN BOARD, is a gator crying about what Vol fans say on their board.
You wanna switch teams, whine all you want. Until then, any Vol here can cry about whatever they choose. Suck it up buttercup.

Tom Herman said some similarly goofy things. No one batted an eye.
"Usually a five-star kid has five-star talent," Herman said "What rankings dont do though is crack their chest open and look at their heart."
He didn't start it. But to this point has made more sense than many here, regardless of his allegiances.
I remember when this board ripped Les Miles....

No, he really hasn't. Hold on, I'll explain why...
And that's your logical flaw. You tend to see "this board" (by which you mean all the people who post in these forums) as a monolithic bloc. You told us that "you" (we all) want to keep Alabama but then "you (we all) complain that it puts our team at a disadvantage.
No.
On this matter, we are a nation divided.
The vast majority of folks who want to preserve the Third Saturday in October (me included) don't mind the challenge that comes with it; we embrace it.
The vast majority of folks who are complaining about having to play Alabama do NOT want to preserve the tradition. In fact, I suspect that the majority of them were born after 1975 and see Florida, not Bama, as our top rival.
It's almost, not quite but almost, a generational thing. And so you're wrong again, it's not "the vast majority" who want to keep TSIO...it's probably closer to half, or at most two-thirds to one-third. There are a LOT of Vols fans who don't see Bama as our top rival.
There are very few of "those people," actually. Most either want to keep TSIO, or complain about it being a disadvantage. Rarely (never?) both.
Preserving the game for historical purposes doesn't matter to me from that sense. No, he really hasn't. Hold on, I'll explain why...

Agreed. I like having the game because I grew up on it, and honestly I'd hate to not play it.Preserving the game for historical purposes doesn't matter to me from that sense.
It's the *****ing and moaning that it's costing a coach more grief because the perception is that the Bama game is costing the program the division.
Nut up and beat SC and Vandy when they suck. Then you can belly ache.
