And Tony V is officially gone.

Hate to see him go, but glad to see him go chase his dream.
It has to be the dream of anyone, in any profession, to go do that profession at the highest level.
Coach Tony V gets that opportunity.

He will always be remembered here as the guy that made UT Baseball truly great !!!
Also, I have faith in Danny White that he has the resources and knowledge to chose the right person to continue this amazing trajectory that the program is currently experiencing.

Hate to see him go. We will miss him. It is difficult to turn down a 100 % increase in pay. He was already the highest paid baseball coach in the SEC. Wish him all the success he deserves, but he is now in a really cut throat league. It may be difficult.

I hate to see him go but wishing him well. Grateful he lead UT to a Natty, brought VOL baseball to relevancy & a program good coaches will be interested in taking. A bit surprised Elander didn’t get interim since he’s so involved with the guys & such a good recruiter (who would probably be moving on to a head coaching position soon). I would think that would help a lot with keeping those guys around. I really don’t think this is going to drop us to being irrelevant but we probably won’t start out as Natty contenders every year like we did with TV. Thanks for the program you built & everything that came with it!

You think spending that much on damn girls sports is acceptable?
I have three daughters. You are dang right it is acceptable to spend that much on women’s sports. We love going to LV Basketball, Softball and Soccer events. Our LVs do not get huge NIL deals. Thank goodness for the BoostHer Club. If DW would have offered TV a $10 million deal, you would be crying how much ticket prices are going up to pay for keeping him here. I don’t think it has anything to do with DW. I believe TV wants a shot at the Big League just like Saban left LSU after winning a Natty to try the NFL.

Thanks Coach TV for all you have done UT Baseball. Good luck.

Why do Vols fans (if you can call them that) always try to blame things on someone. Sometimes things just happen. People have ambitions and dreams. When they get the chance to fulfill that - an opportunity to rise to the pinnacle of their profession - you celebrate that. You don’t look for someone to blame just because you’re butt hurt.

The guys on SportsAnimal are saying Vitello is making the same $3 million at San Fran despite other reports of around $5 million. Which of course is quite a pay cut overall.

Good Lord, I have read your guys comments about how terrible D White is and how he “failed the press conference” and to my surprise… he said everything you would expect him to say… so many dumb people… so many.

Be happy for Tony V he freaking did it!!! And now he is getting to do it at the highest level! Hope we hire Coach E and we probably will. Just chill

I predict Tony V is back in the SEC within 3 years. A lot like Saban & Spurrier just different sport.
I hope he becomes a HOF coach and takes the Giants to the WS so many times and continues his meteoric rise. Just so what you said doesn’t happen. Him leaving this way and then ending up at another sec program would give me the severest case of bvs that I may never recover from.

Could've been the 2nd non-football coach at UT to have a statue in front of the venue he filled. GOAT at UT Baseball. CBB Hall of Fame.

Might still get the last one, but the first two are gone. His choice. Good Luck in the bigs.

Doubt if his style works well in the League. But he'll have his choice of top college teams to pick from when SF cans him in 3 years.

Next man up.

A natty in football under Heupel? I'll start the timer.

You may be right.

Short Answer: It's possible, but unlikely in the next 2-3 years—call it a 10-15% chance overall during his contract (through 2028). Heupel has rebuilt Tennessee into a perennial 9-10 win contender and CFP gatecrasher, but championships demand sustained elite execution on the road and against blue-bloods, areas where he's plateaued. The expanded CFP helps (more chances for at-large bids), and if Heupel adapts (e.g., aggressive transfers, coaching adjustments), 2027 could be the window with a loaded roster. But skeptics are right: Without beating Georgia consistently or fixing road demons, Tennessee risks being a "best of the rest" program in the SEC meat grinder.

Heupel's a top-10 coach by rankings (No. 6 in CBS's 2025 list, top-3 former player-turned-coach per ESPN), and firing him now would be panic. Fans craving titles should temper expectations—Tennessee's last championship drought lasted 47 years (1951-1998). Patience pays, but pressure builds. If the Vols rally to 10 wins and a playoff spot this year, the "Heupel Era" title talk heats up. GBO.
