He’s is a 5-8 lottery pick as of now. I guess he could play ball in the G league to gain experience. Who knows if he will have success in the NBA.By saying NBA ,yall nean G LEAGUE, I'm just guessing. Where i see him going.
Good observation. And, too late for this year, but the training staff needs to get him some steaks and in the weight room! He could be a beast with an additional 25 pounds of muscle.I believe during the ten days between the Illinois game and the Louisville game, and then two "practice" games the staff will have the opportunity to work on some individual skills with Nate Ament. He's not quick/explosive right now. Too deliberate. Some change of pace, pumps, etc would serve him well. But, any new moves need repetitions. He will soon enough become a better scorer. By conference season we'll start to see if it will be this year. JMO
Bet he wishes he had a redo on that decision. He’s is a 5-8 lottery pick as of now. I guess he could play ball in the G league to gain experience. Who knows if he will have success in the NBA.
Keon Johnson (lottery pick) is currently unemployed and just spent Thanksgiving w/ family in Midlde TN. The Nets cut him so he’s waiting to be picked up by another team.
Are you kidding? All of them except for Chandler. He’s signed seven and most have been huge disappointments. JJJ was a steady player, but certainly never realized the 5-star role. Overrated? Absolutely. The fact that he had to play 4 years is proof.lol. What 5 stars has Barnes brought in that were overrated?

Phillips? Meh, would be a compliment.
Springer and Johnson? Decent players, but certainly didn’t show the production to justify one and done. Their pro careers confirm. Huntley-Hatfield? Total bust. How the hell a guy with Barnes’ experience couldn’t sniff this one out is beyond me.
So, you obviously didn’t do your homework when you asked that question. Ament looks like a massive waste of money. This is the guy Barnes pushed boosters to go out and pay an absurd amount of money. $4 million. I’m sorry, but that’s embarrassing. Maybe the kid blossoms, but he just doesn’t look physically ready to play this style. So yes, Barnes has a history of overrated 5-star players and Ament looks to be the biggest disappointment yet.
Phillips you have a point but no one with an iota of common sense thinks that Springer and Johnson flopped here during Covid.
And JJJ played about as well as anyone expected considering he was here for 4+ years. Everyone expects a 5 star to be one and done. We got JJJ for 4+ years. That is hardly a flop.

He definitely needs to get stronger and be more aggressive on his drives to the basket. He is playing ageist some grown men whe he gets in the paint.Good observation. I said the same thing but he doesn’t regret it one bit as He’s made millions already. Plus he and a couple of NFL players started a new business - not sure what.Bet he wishes he had a redo on that decision.
As I said in a previous post, I would like to see us run off-ball action a la Julian Phillips for him to then post (high or low) and work from there to score and/or get to the line with fewer t/o's. Ofc he has to be smart and show he can handle the double when posting smaller defenders which remains to be seen.I think he will only continue to improve as he physically matures. He's 18 and clearly is skilled, but needs to gain weight and strength. I'm not ready to toss the baby with the bathwater in regards to his entire career, but I am willing to concede that we will likely never see him fulfill his potential at Tennessee.
He seems to have a problem driving to the basket, He often turns the ball over or winds up having to take an awkward shot. When he pulls up for a short jumper, he is often short with his shot. That will improve with experienced when he decides to dunk the ball.
Similar level players in HS, yet AJ’s game translated pretty seamlessly to college compared to Nate’s. Must be nice
Needs. a lot of work in S&C.Dybantsa seems much more physically developed and more of a finished product at the same stage, which would seem to account for the difference. Same for Boozer, Peterson, Peat.
Ament has tons of potential, but while BYU is likely to see close to the finished product with AJD in his one year, Tennessee is likely to only see glimpses of the player Ament can be in his one year.
