Ament will improve

He isn’t really overrated. He’s just not going to live up to expectations and won't stick around long enough to fulfill the promise in Tennessee orange. But he will have a very nice basketball career and be drafted as a lottery pick because the NBA will fall in love with his potential and skill-set the same way Rick Barnes did. You can see what hes capable of, but his lack of size will hold him back.

Cautionary tale of paying that kind of money for the flashy freshmen. Few are worth the hype because few will cash in early enough to justify the buzz and NIL cost.

I think he'll get paid. But I'm not sure I agree on him having a "nice basketball career", depending on what that means.

He has length and is athletic for his size. He’s a “soft” player / his shooting is very inconsistent.

Right now teams are bullying him.

He may may mature or he may not.

He will be drafted off of potential . . . But as competition has gone up . . . He has struggled.
Everyone in the nba has length. He’s not going to be a nba player

I can’t say I disagree. At all. I am trying to to avoid “overreacting” to the last few games . . . But he doesn’t look the part at all.

What’s concerning is . . . If he is not scoring, I don’t see how he is helping the team in other ways.

I too thought that was obvious. If he played anywhere else then posters like @cncchris33 , @TheMookieMonster , @bleedingTNorange would have been on board weeks ago.

Ament has had a very bad last week, I’ve said as much, but if you’re looking for me to jump on the Ament hate train like you and ask to kick him to the curb and moan about how much money he’s getting paid, I’m not going to do it.

He’s 18 and has a ton of potential. I’m not giving up on him figuring it out after a bad few games.

I believe during the ten days between the Illinois game and the Louisville game, and then two "practice" games the staff will have the opportunity to work on some individual skills with Nate Ament. He's not quick/explosive right now. Too deliberate. Some change of pace, pumps, etc would serve him well. But, any new moves need repetitions. He will soon enough become a better scorer. By conference season we'll start to see if it will be this year. JMO
Our best lineup does not include Ament…. Face it - he is too weak to take it to the rim, not a good enough shooter to spot up, and not quick enough to take his man off of the bounce…
Play JP and Cary more…

I started watching around 3 games into the season and the dude doesn’t have it. Anyone that says he is a top 5 draft pick is fooling themselves. He is playing himself into playing another year.

It’s silly how some of our fans react in short terms, but I guess that’s many fans of otter teams, too.

Go back and watch his close out on a 3 early in the 2nd half. He was just kind of trotting over with no effort. He honestly looks both timid and lazy to me.
His biggest criticism as a recruit was his lack of aggression. Being timid/ aggressive isn’t something you can turn it off or on. It’s a mental game. He is what he is ATP.

Practice aint gonna put 25-30 pounds on him. He's the biggest waste of NIL in history. We will get nothing out of him this year and he's off to the NBA joke league in '26. His size carried him through HS. As good of a find as ZZ was for Barnes... Ament is equally a bad investment.

He’s only on campus for a few more months. I don’t care how much potential he has. He was supposed to come in and be the answer.

He’s played 5 real power conference games. 5. You’re acting like it’s February, when it’s early December. He’s been unquestionably bad, but I’m not going to assume he’s going to suck the rest of the year with as much talent as he has.

Maybe he never figures it out, but focusing exclusively on his shortcomings as the entire reason the is team is where it’s at is stupid. This team has a lot of problems right now. Ament is only one of them.
