Alvin Kamara Appreciation Thread (merged)

So 5 rushing TD's, 5 receiving TD's, and KO return for a TD = MVP?

Impressive but not gonna happen.

1,500 yards from scrimmage, 14 total TDs, and 7.6 yards per touch = MVP

When you look at Alvin's production per touch, he was easily the best RB in the league. His importance to the Saints offense was also shown when he went out against Atlanta and they couldn't score.

Without Alvin Kamara, the Saints don't make the playoffs. He was that important. He made Mark Ingram and Drew Brees better.

I think it best people leave players parents out of it...imo Hurd took a lot of punishment and ran hard and had some beautiful runs and catches...give him his due and be honorable and move on...I don't know what went on behind the scenes but I know the plays I saw him make and I loved to see it....
We can't change what happened in the past...move on and let them move on...Just like any mother, she took up for her son.
As far as who the best back I ever saw run with the football was BARRY SANDERS...
Sanders had moves like none other...it killed me when he retired..but he wanted to retire as a Detroit Lion....

Those are stats. We can't use them to evaluate a players success, remember.

I'm not doubting how good he is or what he means to the Saints. He won't get the MVP. Not a knock on AK, just the politics of the NFL.

Why do stats matter? Oh and BTW, Tom Brady has the MVP locked. The closest should be Gurley.

So a future member of the FSU staff actually said something that makes sense about a former Vol??

Alvin is way more valuable Gurley. Gurley was there last year and they were a lousy team last year. The only difference this year is Sean McVay. He's the reason they are in the playoffs this year not Todd Gurley.

And on Tom Brady, we've seen the Patriots have success without him. Remember Bill Belichek won 11 games in 2008 with Matt Cassell. The MVP of the Patriots every year is Bill Belichek not Tom Brady.

The only reason the Saints are in the playoffs this year is because of Alvin Kamara. They were lousy last year without him. They were lousy this year when he got hurt against Atlanta. He's been the key to their success. Without him they aren't close to being the same team.

Alvin Kamara = 2017 NFL MVP

Your reasonings are almost as insane as your flip flopping. What Tom Brady is doing at his age is unfreaking real andhas NEVER been done before.

You use stats only when it supports your argument. Kamara has had a great season. But an MVP one? Not even close.

We'll see what the future holds regarding more touches but there is no reason to believe a RB averaging less than 50ypg rushing is (or even should be) getting an MVP. It really is that simple. There's only been one RB MVP in the last decade and that was AP in '12 when he piled up the #2 rushing and #8 yfs totals of all time.

I couldn't help but notice while watching college football yesterday that several college RBs (in particular Travis Etienne of Clemson and Darrel Williams of LSU) were copying Alvin's style of wearing long turf tape along the back of his arms. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look at Alvin's arms in the picture below:

DSho9lmXcAA9ZeE.jpg:large

Alvin's the first football player I've ever seen do this. Players in the past wore turf tape before Alvin but they typically only did so when they played on turf and only along the back of their elbows. Alvin is the first player I've seen extend the tape all the way down the backside of his arms. And he also the only guy I've seen wear it consistently whether he's playing on turf or natural grass.

I like the fact he's turned this into his signature look. It not only looks cool but it could also be as revolutionary as when Allen Iverson introduced the arm sleeve to the NBA. Remember Allen Iverson was the first NBA player to wear an arm sleeve during a game. He wore it at first because of a sore elbow. Then he kept wearing it because he thought it looked good. Other players also thought it looked good and started copying him. And now when you watch an NBA game its rare to see a player WITHOUT an arm sleeve.

It'll be interesting to see if Alvin's style spreads among football players like AI's arm sleeve spread among basketball players.

I was just re-watching Kamara's 106 yard return and like everyone else, noticed how he looked like he was "coasting" but, no one was even close to catching him. I did a "Scientific" study and timed him on my watch's stopwatch and from his first step to the other end zone and got 11.73 seconds. He started from essentially a stopped position, was in full gear, and starting slowing down at 15 yards out.
I don't know if the Saint's staff have done anything to the way he trains or runs but, he looks 6" taller and his stride looks 6" longer than anything I ever saw when he was at Tennessee. He glides like a very few elite pro players have over the years.
