Odd business. Lumber is a product of the land like food. Some trees are owned by the lumber companies, but a lot is owned by others. Not a whole lot of manufacturing, harvest, cut/mill, dry(over simplified), i.e. osb.
There is an ETF to get you some exposure to the industry, WOOD.
But it's up 100% + in the last year so it could be near the top for the near future.
3 of us bought 270 acres with trees about 15 years ago. We manage it, and sell when the price is favorable, and a section of trees is ready for harvest. We get bids from several people. I'm glad one of the other guys is a forestry guy, because I'd be lost.
