All things STOCKS

I have a bunch of stuff going ballistic today. IIPR, DNN, NSPR, CLPT, CBAT (I am just "losing less" on the last 2)

RKT still being manipulated, but it seems to be a minority taste over at WSB.

I just saw that 2x4s are priced at $7 each. Weyerhaeuser (WY) might be in my future. But I wish it were a regular corporation rather than a REIT.

Georgia Pacific is a Koch Industry subsidiary.

I don’t recognize the names of the other lumber manufacturers.

Well it seems too late for that to me. During COVID, I have been caught holding LOWES twice during nauseating collapses. For a boring retailer it goes through some big swings.

It should be a good long term hold. Amazon and Walmart aren’t in the lumber business. I don’t own Lowe’s but I have a big position in Home Depot. Even during the pandemic the parking lot is packed on weekends with home owners and during the week with contractors. Of course the crazy low interest rate is the biggest positive for their businesses.

It is a good long term hold, no doubt. But if it's going to swing $20 a share, I just wish I was getting the swing right. I'd like to have that $20 in my pocket instead of that kick in the gut.

BLD is a nice construction industry stock that has been a big gainer this year. I have a small stake in them currently, but may add more.

Odd business. Lumber is a product of the land like food. Some trees are owned by the lumber companies, but a lot is owned by others. Not a whole lot of manufacturing, harvest, cut/mill, dry(over simplified), i.e. osb.
There is an ETF to get you some exposure to the industry, WOOD.
But it's up 100% + in the last year so it could be near the top for the near future.

3 of us bought 270 acres with trees about 15 years ago. We manage it, and sell when the price is favorable, and a section of trees is ready for harvest. We get bids from several people. I'm glad one of the other guys is a forestry guy, because I'd be lost.

I guess that timber/lumber a lot like farming. I like the hemp and bamboo industries but I’m not aware of opportunities for retail investors in those segments of materials. Bamboo and hemp should appeal to the Greenies.
