All things Muschamp (merged)

If Texas is willing to pay Muschamp more than $1 million, they are out of their minds and the whole world of college football is insane. The competitive nature of the game/business is gotten absurdly out of hand...

He was making 1.3 million before this whole situation and he's expected to get another raise in the next few days. They're paying their head coach 5 million/year...but their athletic department is by far the most valuable in CFB and their football team destroys the profits of the next closest team, Notre Dame.

Lane is that you? If so, then Lucy, You got some splainin' to doooo!

I'm just going by the facts here...right now Tennessee job is behind

Texas, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Penn State. You could also argue Nebraska, Michigan, and Notre Dame are up there as well.

unfortunately, I have to agree with this. Keep Chaney and Thompson, make Kippy HC and see where the chips fall.

This scenario makes sense to some degree. With Muschamp and Patterson having 0 interest, I agree with this. Let the chips fall where they may and move forward.

Muschamp isn't retarded. He had 2 choices:

Stay with the Texas Job:
- Play in the Big 12 South
- Only Challenging Game: Oklahoma
- Guaranteed 11-1 or 12-0 Season -> NC or BCS Bowl Game

Go with Tennessee:
- Play in the SEC
- Have to compete with Florida, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Auburn just to get to the SEC Championship game.
- Above = Probably Impossible, Say Hello to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

Easy Choice. If you want to have a pretty straightforward and successful college career, Texas is your dream job. Tennessee is going to take a while to build, and even when it's back, it'll be challenging.

Or he could be an idiot:
If you made 900K at Texas and you turned down 4 Million or so from Tennessee
and your wife found out - could you imagine what would happen when you walked in the door at home???

Did anyone call this and say it was just Jimmy Sexton USING AND ABUSING us again?

Oh yeah...I did.

He's an agent, he's looking out for his client. If he wants to get paid and keep his clients he will continue to do this. Do I think it's right, no, but it is his job and I understand this.

How is Georgia or Michigan higher since you're obviously evaluating on a yearly basis here? If not than you have to consider that UT was just in the SEC Championship game in 07.

I would also say that Notre Dame is one of the worst jobs when you consider the expectations and the fact that they are more selective about who they recruit.

Eh his wife is the one who wants him to stay in Austin..she was the main reason he didn't get serious about the Auburn or Tennessee job. And he's making 1.8-2 million as DC this next year at Texas. And btw you'd have to be a fool to pay a coach with 0 head coaching experience 4+ million per year.

I said you could argue Michigan/Notre Dame was better because of the history. And Georgia is better because Tennessee is in really bad shape as of the last 48 hours.

+1

Notre Dame is just Vanderbilt with more history.

I think Muschamp will have $3 million reasons to head East. No end in sight for the Mack era at TX.

Muschamp is making $2 million next year as DC at texas???? :eek:hmy:

He was making 1.3 million before this and reports are he's getting another raise between 400-700k. He will be making 3x what the next highest paid coordinator is in CFB and is the 2nd highest paid defensive coordinator in all of football. Only the Giants defensive coordinator will be making more.

HE IS NOT AN OPTION GUY. He runs it out of nessesity.

He was an OC in the NFL for crying out loud.

Please, before you right a guy off consider, that a pro style offense is here to stay in Tennessee and we have to find a guy that not only can run it, but that show recruits a track record of running it in the NFL.

This is a huge selling point to players if you have someone with not only NFL ties, but with NFL OC experience.

The players who are unsure about Calhoun have not done their research either.

We are talking about a guy thats in his early 40s and could be a staple much like Fulmer and Majors were.

Don't confuse these people with facts...They are dead set that he is an option guy and for some unknown reason think he can't coach worth a crap...Remember you are dealing with 13-17 years olds on this board in most cases and they do not read everything put in front of them and the ones who are not at that age and are older have no excuse but I understand what you are saying..He is a good coach and would be one that would stay and build here...Not a big name but one that would care...His coaching skills are not to be questioned, His recruiting skills might be...Thats the only drawback I see with him.

Actually rumors are leaking Brown said from within he'll be out by 2012 and moving into the AD chair. There is a chance he's gone after the 2010 season and a great chance he's gone by 2011.

If they are so high on Muschamp and thinks he is the saviour, why don't they send Mack Brown out the door? Heck I think Mack has a contract through 2016 or something. So I say there is something else going on there and it appears Muschamp wants to be the head coach at Texas and if he wants it that bad let him stay.

With that being said, I don't think Hamilton would allowed him to come to TN and pull a Lane Kiffin.

They're apparently grooming his for the job slowly

Last year he got the keys to the recruiting trail

This year he's running the practices

Next year he's going to get way more involved with the team as a whole on gameday not just the defense

Then apparently in 2012 the team is his and Brown is stepping down and becoming the AD

There really is nothing more insufferable than Texas chauvinism. Your mother would have crapped you out in North Mexico if it weren't for all the Tennesseans who came down there and died for your godforsaken slice of desert hellhole. At least once upon a time you had oil and J.R. Ewing to hang your ridiculously foppish cowboy hats on, but now it's all just bighaired skanks and strip malls. And yet you all prance around like you're better than all the rest of the 49 states put together. You guys are about as special as Glamour Shots.

Well I figured Muschamp would stay at Texas to wait another 6-7 years to become a head coach..lol.. anyways I don't know if anyone has mentioned it and I don't know what people would think.. How about Lovie Smith? He has UT ties and I'm biased cuz I'm a bears fan but I wouldn't mind him comin down here at all...

We just might be better off with Kippy as an interm HC untill next season, not many established guys will make the jump slimeball did this late in the recruiting season. Hate to say it but we just got set back 3 to 5 years and just have to live with it.

We just cannot go out and hire just anyone, we need the right guy and he most likley isn't out there right now.

This is the best realistic option I've heard so far.
