‘23 AL DL Hunter Osborne (Alabama commit)

If Texas lost 12 games last year they would still recruit gangbusters.Texas is huge and full of blue chips and they are the flagship school.. Its impossible for them not to land theirs. People need to stop comparing us.
I remember when Mack was there they would have their next class pretty much wrapped up by the end of February. You would check the class they just signed and see they had 20 juniors committed for the next class and almost exclusively from Texas.

Regardless of the coach, it still comes down to winning first and foremost. The kids we’re recruiting were 2 or younger when we last went to the SEC Championship
Then there is probably a problem with the way we are recruiting. If a kid can not see that you can start your NFL clock in year 3 by exposing your talent at Tennessee instead of sitting on the bench at Alabama or Georgia for 3 years we are not communicating correctly. Especially with Garner coaching the D line. The kid has the potential of losing a whole year of NFL salary.

Depends on if their college goal is get on the field quickly or win national championships. Hopefully soon we can get to where that is not an either or thing, but right now it is.

They see that they can sit the bench for three years at those places, then have one big year where they go to the playoff and then get a payday. Immediate playing time isn't the number one priority for all recruits.

Texas says hi. They won 5 games last year and are recruiting like wildfire.

They always will. Kids in that state want to go to Texas. They are born and raised dreaming of it. Also somewhat their downfall as this kids have been playing a more wide open spread type of ball leading to less physical defensive players than they used to get. Which has been their primary problem even Diaz, Muschamp and Strong couldn’t field elite defenses there. In case of Muschamp and Diaz as soon as they left the next year at new stop they had elite defenses again

Less wear and tear too.

There is no simple calculus for players decision processes.

How a family weights being able to attend games vs watching on TV matters.

Costs for family to attend games matters. (In this instance it is 1.25 vs 3.5 hour drive and that is not a big deal)

Whether a player actually had hats and flags as a kid matters. Down there in my day natives had to declare, and lots of split families existed and each side loved to poach from each other. Tree killers and tea baggers and the AU equivalents trashed those that did and earned eyerolls from the quality fans of both sides. Both sides seemed to honor loyal fans of other schools, lots of Vols in N. AL.

How they value being part of championship team vs early playing time matters. Big timers assume they will get their shot wherever they go.

How they get along with the different staffs matters.

The new added NIL offers or potential now matters. Especially if the differential offsets game attendance costs.

Some kids value being part of a turnaround, some don't.

The weight on each of these and other factors is a variable, and the sum yields a decision....

Way too complex to assess from outside the walls of their homes.

Portal now diminishes the impact of the original decision.... that too can help or hurt, i.e. a kid can take a shot on his childhood fav with easier remedies, if the depth chart does not suit him or get a shot to go back to the fav if he excels after starting elsewhere. All part of the brave new world.

Signing day is not the guarantee or the failure it used to be pre portal. Your class can walk away or be healed. The potentials are endless.

If this kid has a committable offer to Bama that’s where he will be.
Unfortunately, I think your right. Now if it isn’t bama we might have a shot. But still wouldn’t rule Clemson out either even though they have tried to strong arm him during the recruiting process. I think his family likes Tennessee a lot. You would think he would like the opportunity he has here with a rising team and needing D line depth. But we are still in on D-lineman and Garner and staff always seem to come through late. And some very good players always emerge during their senior year. GBO!

Would be great to get him. It would be a great statement to take an Alabama HS recruit away from Bama, Clemson (I believe Dabo is from AL), and Texas... plus he looks like a really talented player.
Yeah this would be a real plus to secure a recruit out from under these guys, instead of Kentucky, n.c. State, Missouri, etc. Of course I suppose N.I.L. would , could be the determining factor.

Kid said “rings over lambos” after he committed. Wonder who’s that in reference to… Seems like ohio state but they weren’t even after him that much at all. Tennessee Texas and Gumps were the finalists
