Adams article

A little too late in the process. It is what it is as well as it will always be. There are problems no doubt about it. This program has got scruinty on it like no other right now. Did it hurt recruitting? Probably. Will it continue to hurt maybe. Time will tell.

Without a shake up which we have had half of one this season. It seems like we have made our bed so we must lie in it.

Adams is not at all interested or cares about this program. It is all about selling papers and writing articles. Had he do this in 2005 versus 2008 then I might say he was onto something about the neccessary changes, but he didn't. He probably figured out he did not have a good article and figured this was the way to go.

The problem with the program at UT is much deeper than CPF it was also the whole body of work and must include the old staff. Now we have a new one and we are back to a wait and see mode. So if anybody has done anything for the program it has be us shooting ourselves in the foot for allowing it to go on.

As far as the adults in the NFL. I do not care what choices they made because they were Adults and not here in school. These men had parents that could have raised them better to make better choices. Evidently while they were in school they did make the better choices.

So lets just wait and see. Adams is all about himself and his profound wisdom. I do not condone what is happening at UT but we now must wait and see.

It has been my experience of having dealt with the media for around 20 years......... It is bigger news just to get a story out first....example front page headline would go something like this...... Locals Terrorized by Home Invasion! a few days later... arrest made in home invasion...page 6! two years later........man cleared on home invasion charge........page 18

I'll be interested to see if Daughterey comments on this in his next post, assuming he is still writing pieces for VN??? I listened to part of his show last night on 1510 and they were discussing the Adams editorial. Pretty lively.

One thing about that article is using former Vol's actions in the NFL as proof of CPF's inability to discipline people.

What about Rich Rodriguez at WVU? Pac-Man and Chris Henry have really made WVU seem like a great school.

Hell, Lawrence Phillips. Does he make Osborne look bad because Osborne recruited him?

Had he left out what players do once they move on to the NFL, his article wouldn't be nearly as bad. But that BS about what players do in the NFL after leaving Tennessee is nonsense. Grown men making millions have to be accountable somewhere down the road.

It was a ridiculous inclusion.

John Adams shouldn't care about the UT program. It's part of having an independent media. Sure beats the crap out of listening to the mental invalids that inhabit the airwaves of UT's flagship station in Knoxville fall all over each other trying to see who can suck up to UT most.

just go listen to Dirty laundry a few times and pay close attention to the lyrics....they sum up todays media!

justin, I think it only hurts insofar as people have made a big deal out of the number of Fulmer-coached players in the NFL and his character development skills. That has been one of the "selling points" on Phil, and the program in general, for awhile now. Obviously, the stuff going on with actives is much more germane to Phil's employent situation.

This is correct. However, writing about what grown men do after graduating or using up their eligibility here and going on to high paying jobs is a sorry ass excuse for a story.

CPF has always been inconsistent when it comes to discipline issues. Calling him out on it is good stuff. Putting in what NFL players do is asinine.

CPF has absolutely no control what millionares (or hundred thousand-nares if that's a word) do with their time.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink seems to apply here.

People need to reign it in for sure. But I'll take 10 public intoxications to 1 armed robbery or counterfeiting.

I agree.

Further, I'd take 50 positive marijuana tests and 50 public intoxications to 1 DUI. I think driving while drunk (or under the influence of drugs) is inexcusable.

Oh ... it's "no big deal" when a guy runs off the road and hits a tree ... but when a guy hits some innocent person the true gravity of his action becomes a little more apparent. If you're breaking the law by doing things that can harm someone other than yourself, you deserve to suffer consequences whether or not you actually do someone else harm.

And I'm talking more than a lost scholly and a 5-game suspension.

I think 1 of can be explained as an isolated incident related to that individual.........5,,,10,,,,15 or those 50 you speak of speak volumes about the organization!

The article is RIGHT ON -- no doubt. It's painful but true. I think we should have kicked Colquitt off the team for his blue-zillionth incident with alcohol.

I think Colquitt should have been gone too. However, even Adams article states that he hadn't been in trouble since 2004 if I remember right. That span of "good conduct" might have gotten him some leniency.

Adams article is actually very selective in the facts he presents. He's wanted to say that Fulmer should be fired and found a way to say it.

He suggests that CPF hasn't taken action against valuable players within a year of UT having kicked Fellows, Coker, Davis, and Wardlow off the team.

If read that article about Hamilton's comments, I'm pretty sure it says that he provides guidelines and approves every punishment that CPF hands out.

I believe that was true up until 2005 but Colquitt is the only questionable one I can think of (at least that have been made public) since then.

Do you know of other inconsistencies since then?

Foster.

But it should be noted that a lot of the issues with discipline over the years have been swept under the rug. Half the time we don't know that anything happened and the other half we know something happened, but not quite what it was. So what hits the News Sent. is really only about half the story.

I'm not one who has been calling for Phil's head but something has to change. It doesn't matter if you like him or not but the only thing that can save him now is winning an sec championship. That is the only way I can see him being around for another year or two.
