Does anyone remember that time Lane Kiffin was our coach and the NCAA started investing us?
Only reason we didn't get hammered is because of a man named... David Blackburn.
Just hire him already 🙄

No longer a candidate per Brent Hubbs. Took his name out of the running.

See not all Bubba's are dumb. Likely just used Ms. Davenport to get a nice raise at UNC. You don't leave one of the top 10 athletic departments in the country for UT. Especially one as dysfunctional as this one--and its not like thats a behind the closet secret nationally.

Just go call Blackburn and tell him to come home. Give me the guy that has done well everywhere he has been and is primed to be a power 5 coordinator. Top it off with the fact the he is from UT and wants the job and loves UT and not many are going to critical of the hire no matter what happens. This man wants the job more than anyone and is probably the more committed and cares more about UT than anyone else the running except maybe Fulmer. We also probably get Fulmer with the hiring of Blackburn in some capacity. GET OFF YOUR BUTT ADMINISTRATION!!!!!! GBO!!!!!

I'd say all the bubba's in TN tweeting to his twitter page showed him the true colors around here.

Im with alot of you all. Blackburn is 2 hours away, very easy hire that shouldn't have required a search firm. Has to be a very high booster not wanting him here or they're arguing between Blackburn/Fulmer and going a different route.

Pre answer
The problems at NC were prior to his arrival. Not related to him.

Do we know he's actually on the so-called short list? Even though issues may or may not have happened before him, guilt by association, questionable ways unc handled the investigation, black cloud lingering...

On second thought, he seems like perfect fit for our dysfunctional group.

Hoping the new chancellor brings some normalcy.

They do that and there will be a major outcry that they certainly don't want. I don't care if they have to draw names out of a hat, it better be Blackburn or Fulmer.

No, it doesn't. It may be a situation of hiring neither is the solution. We are on the outside looking in, and we don't take the flack Davenport does if (God forbid) the guys we are pushing for are the wrong guys to have in there. We just want a Tennessee guy because we feel some bad choices by Hart, Hamilton, and maybe even Dickey would have been not made by a Tennessee guy. We trust those we identify as one of our own. That doesn't mean they can be trusted to handle issues we don't want to talk about.

I still want Blackburn, but if he plans to bring in Phil to oversee football, he can stay in Chattanooga. People can argue for him all they want; He will always have Shoney's.

I say let the lady make the choice. And if it blows up, fire them both and start again.

A guy from North Carolina that did his part in keeping their entire AD roiling with the NCAA rather than mea culpa, opening them up to the light of day, and disinfecting the place???? Hell to the naw is not a strong enough response for me. We would need to discuss his parentage, his mama, and how bad his dog is before considering that sort of person at UTK.

North Carolina AD lays out academic fraud defense: NCAA 'overcharged' Tar Heels

Revealing what seems to be North Carolina's defense in the case, Cunningham told CBS Sports, "Is this academic fraud? Yes, it is by a normal person's standards. But by the NCAA definition [it is not]."

"[I told the NCAA] if a class is on my transcript, I have a grade, I have a credit," Cunningham added. "How are you -- as the outside athletic agency -- telling me that's not good?"

Oh yeah...this guy seems like a stellar candidate...especially if you love forfeiting games, self-reporting NCAA violations on a quarterly basis, and giving up scholarships.

Yet...no show cause for Roy Williams, lost scholarships and they're chugging right along near the top of the rankings. Just in time for March Madness. Not exactly Mike Hamilton pushing Pearl off the bridge.

He's already withdrawn his name, same as he did with Florida.
I'm sure we'll keep pretending he's in charge of North Carolina's legal defense, even though he's no longer a candidate.

Besides, if recent history is any indication- the administration will automatically keep withdrawing from anyone local.
We will find a reason to hate anyone not local.

And after kicking off good candidates both local and non, in a last-second need to fill the position, will end up with the guy from Cincinnati.

"Many at-risk student-athletes, particularly in the sports of football and men's basketball, used these courses for purposes of ensuring their continuing NCAA academic eligibility," the latest notice said.

With the second notice the NCAA removed men's basketball and football, and only hit women's basketball. As of the third notice, football and men's basketball are back in the NCAA's crosshairs.

Where in all that is the "forfeited games" and "given up scholarships"? A crappy AD rolls over and shows his belly to the NCAA, begging for mercy. This guy got the best possible outcome for his school.

Sounds like Bubba would have been a great fit for Alabama based on this quote:

Revealing what seems to be North Carolina's defense in the case, Cunningham told CBS Sports, "Is this academic fraud? Yes, it is by a normal person's standards. But by the NCAA definition [it is not]."

So....we have a perfectly qualified candidate already in the system that can't get an interview....an ex football coach who has zero experience leading a department who spent so much time putting out off field fires that he had college football's version of the Razzies named after him....and a guy named Bubba who essentially uses the same defense as Clinton did in defining the word "is" as a defense against NCAA violations.

Sounds about par for the course for the University of TN.

Why are we even talking about this dude?! We all know who the university should hire! It's just a question will CPF come as an assistant or not (which I believe he would) so hire Blackburn.
Here is a lesson in decion making for all you wanna be administrators out there! Always, and I say Always err on the side of making a mistake doing the right, the most obvious, thing than trying to something off the wall, out of left field. People feel sorry for you when you do the right thing and it doesn't work out. When you do something off the wall and it doesn't work out you get crucified! Hiring the guy from NC is off the wall!!!

Exactly. Anyone who stands up to them make them squirmish. Heck, Miami should have got the death penalty.
