That’s the point I’m trying to make it’s been 13 years since we have been in the SEC title game it’s just too tough and more top heavy now than it’s ever been even the lower tier teams are not cupcakes anymore and some teams get squeezed out from the top rung like us. We certainly couldn’t waltz our way thru the ACC but it would be a far easier road to playing for a conference title.
The only thing intriguing is that anybody is spending time pretending this is a good idea. The loss in rights fees, exposure and reduced recruiting base make this insanely stupid.Which is why giving automatic bids to the playoffs is so, so dumb. Look people are gonna flame you on this, but I like intriguing/novel discourse. I'd never considered what you posited before reading this thread. Not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but I bet the ACC would leap at the opportunity.
Ok. Well then the post is over. However, I will say this. The next round of contracts with the affiliates will not be as lucrative.
I know this thread might ruffle some feathers but I’ve thought for awhile now we would be better served moving to the ACC. We would’ve been the second best team in the ACC this year really and would be right at the top every year with Clemson. Knoxville is pretty close to ACC country as well and we border NC, and Virginia so natural annual rivalries with Va. Tech and Virginia along UNC and NC st. would naturally be formed.
Well I expected to get flamed over this post but it’s just food for thought something I’ve thought over since 2010. I love the Vols grew up as young kid witnessing the glory days of the 90’s run and thought that it was always going to be that way for UT football. The last decade plus has been the worst stretch in the history of UT football and sometimes you have to wonder if we can ever achieve annual 10 to 12 win seasons again and compete on a annual basis in the present day SEC not the SEC of the 20 plus years ago.Which is why giving automatic bids to the playoffs is so, so dumb. Look people are gonna flame you on this, but I like intriguing/novel discourse. I'd never considered what you posited before reading this thread. Not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but I bet the ACC would leap at the opportunity.
@Freak, can we please get a dislike button?
Before we change a conference that we helped build how bout we dnt hire a Kiffin, Dooley, & Botch to further set us back. Do u know the message u would be sending if we switched to the ACC bc we couldnt win the SEC??? At the end of the day if u are trying to win a natty then the road goes through the SEC. So whenever we do win big again we would have earned it with 0 debate.Think about it and it makes some pretty good sense. We would be a annual top 3 team in the ACC. When was the last time we were that in the SEC?
