Academic report from GVX....

I work in college athletics. I know what I'm talking about. No one is expecting 4.0's from everyone, but a team GPA of 2 is just embarrassing and a problem.

I agree. Don't get me wrong there is blame for everyone here from players to coaches but heads must roll in the academic staff IMO. They simple aren't reaching these kids and that is their responsibility.

It all starts at the top.

I'm not for sure on the school rules for removal.

what is confusing right now is status on Miller and Schofield. I don't understand where they fit opposed to the 30 or so on academic probation. I thought that was why CM and JS were being held out of football but if so, why wasn't all the others.

I'll need to speak with someone on that.

bottom line is, we have a lot of football players treading water on the academic side. Possible NCAA and school issues with them

I would be shocked if kids are dismissed from school but eligible per the NCAA. All schools that I know of have an appeal process that would come after a probation time and I don't see any football players being turned down on appeal unless they aren't eligible.

I was on academic probation once. At our school you weren't removed from school unless you had two bad gpa semesters in a row. You had another semester to pull you grades up before you were kicked out of school. Even at that point, I think you only had to sit out a semester. Not sure how it is at UT though.

This also creates worry about potential issues this fall. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the NCAA require a team GPA of 2.5 for post season starting this fall? I know prior it was 2.0 but I believe it was increased to 2.5. It could also create APR issues as well.

Everyone knows my defense of CDD, but if this becomes as big of a problem as it is made to be, and if it effects the football program by thinning out an already hurting roster and setting our recovery back...

My sliding scale may start sliding the other direction.

Josh and Will hinted that Brays class is especially bad. Not excusing Dooley or the athlete, but that class or caliber of 'student athlete' isn't all on Dooley.

The more I hear about the Voltanic and Capt Dooley I cant stand it! This guy just aint clipping the iceberg he is plowing into the sb!

JMHO. This post will be in next years version of "Stupid Off Season Rumors".

Check out this years version. We've had some good ones, this one will fit in real nicely. :good!:

Most arrived here after Dooley and he's the only HC they've had. It falls on him.

Which, ironically, experts have speculated that would have saved the Titanic. The hull was much thicker at the front and had the captain hit it head on, it likely wouldn't have sunk.

That would mean those 4 players didn't pass 6 hours in the fall if I am up on the post season rules.

Also could mean they didn't pass enough classes that count towards getting a degree. You can't load up on BS electives until that's all you need to graduate.

Who in their right mind wouldn't be skeptical of something like this with no link?

My skepticism is not aimed at you. What you are saying makes complete sense and I completely believe that you heard this on the radio, but it's still strange that somebody like Hubbs knows this without writing a story about it. I'd think that a third of a team being in academic trouble would be something a journalist would write a story about.

Hubbs isn't going to write this story until they're headed out the door.

So those players on Academic Probation have to get their spring and cumulative GPAs above 2.0 after this semester or else they're gone, with no chance to play this fall.

Per UT: A student dismissed for the first time may not be readmitted until after a full semester (not including summer) has elapsed.

Hopefully they get some work done to improve their GPA. If not, we are looking at a crisis come September if everything that has been said is true about the players on probation.

According to some of you, we have a chance of losing 30 scholarship players after May classes. They would be kicked out of school according to policy, and we would have @ 45 scholarship players in September.
I don't buy it, and I will just wait until fall to see the academic casualties, if there are any of significance.

I don't disagree with you Spart. I think this is a HUGE stretch, and I can not imagine any coaching staff letting an already hurting program get to that point. I'll believe it when I see it.

If it does prove to be this calamitous and we lose that many scholarship players, whew boy... Even I'll be after CDD's job.
