Wow football players have it easier? In the fall semester, they take as many hours as most other students. Add that to all of the time they have to spend practicing, playing traveling, and studying film and I really don't see how they have the time to study for class.
Student athletes do have easier majors and they do get to register for classes well before everyone else, but most of the time, the professors for the courses aren't announced by the time they get to register and many are stuck with awful teachers. I think it's a joke that people expect these kids to do as well as regular students when they have twice the number of responsibilities.
Football teams always struggle in the fall semester and then pick it up in the spring and summer semesters.
so all students only take 9 hours in the fall semester?? vast majority of football players only take 9 hours. it was 6 until last fall but NCAA changed it. 3 more hours likely made it more difficult on many of them.hmy:

Larry I think you are wrong on this one. They have to be full time students unless they are graduate student. Meaning 12 hours taken.
Another question. If a kid is on probation for the spring semester do they get the summer sessions to get their gpa up?

not by the NCAA. 9 is minimum to be taken per NCAA. not sure who would have required that. maybe parents?

Yes, they have summer.
the 12 hours in the fall semester has not been followed by football players anywhere for years and years. it was 6 prior to this year and increased to 9 this past fall. that is all that is required. by the following August, to remain eligible they have to have completed a total of 27 hours. which means if they knock out 9 in the fall, then they have to get 18 in spring and summer for 27 total or the are ineligible for the next fall.
The minimum required by the NCAA is 12 hours just like everyone else. Baseball, Basketball, and Softball do have reason to complain, but that doesn't mean Football doesn't have a reason to complain either. When do you think they practice? You mentioned all kinds of time for them study and go to class, but do you know how many hours are in a day? If they practice for twelve hours a week, team meetings for another four hours a week, twelve hours of classes, and then you add sleeping and eating and there is almost no time left. Also, if you are unfamiliar with how college works, most of the time professors are on a similar schedule where tests and papers are all due in the week or two every four to five weeks. I'm not sure you understand how much effort it takes to succeed in college much less on the football field.
you are correct.
I confused enrolled with passed.
before this past fall, they had to pass 6 hours to be eligible for bowl participation. this past fall was first year of having to pass 9 hours.
you and Bruin were both right and I was wrong.. confusion happens frequently for old farts. :loco:
Larry you are giving me ncaa eligibility rules but my question is if a student has been on academic probation for a semester do they get the summer or are they removed from school by the university? Not an ncaa question
