Academic report from GVX....

I know we all want proof for what he is saying but reading the article it is clear to me what he is saying is very possible if not probably. Walk on count toward gpa almost always raising the team gpa so a team gpa of less that 2 is very probable.

It's plausible and I never said I doubted him. just wondering where he's getting this from.

I have mentioned this previously. My son works with a former UT professor that stated when a player in class has trouble, the teacher is approached by a chain of command of people until the problem is resolved.I'm not saying every time. I am not sure how this plays this day and age but it puts a ton of pressure on good teachers and eventually they wind up leaving the school and teaching somewhere else.

Sounds like a few media types made an educated guess is where he got the info. I am guessing as well but it sounds like there was around half the scholarship players that had less than a 2.0 in the fall but there is nothing I have seen to say they were 2 semesters of that problem.

Per UT: You will be academically dismissed if both your semester GPA and cumulative GPA are less than 2.00 at the end of any term when you are on Academic Probation.

So if we have 30 (or however many) on AP after the fall, I'm sure those players are being closely monitored and tutored this semester (unless, of course, we have a few that we wouldn't mind losing.) We pay a lot of people a lot of money to take care of issues like this, so I'd say it's under control.

bad semester is a little different than 30 scholarship players on the verge of dismissal from the university

Agreed but as I do the GPA math there are 2 possibilities. 1) around half of the scholarship players are below a 2.0gpa OR 2) a smaller number of players are WAY below a 2.0gpa. I am not sure which is worse. Either way I would guess we have some casualties.

There are some who need to have a good semester. I don't know who, but I think as many as 4 scholarship guys would have been ineligible for a bowl game.

Hubbs

One of those were Darick Rogers. 4 is bad, but its not like the 20 scholarship players people are thinking.

We pay a lot of people to make sure it doesn't get this bad as well unless your implying something improper. The academic support staff should be worried for the jobs IMO

You are correct again. Being ruled ineligible is much worse than being dismissed from the university next semester for not pulling the gpa up, which is the penalty.
That's brilliant.

Really man? Because I never said any is better than the other - one isn't supposed to be made public and the other usually is.. wow.

Where are you seeing the more specific info.

I got it. You know unreleased information that people who make a living to report such info, don't have access to.

Both Brent Hubbs and Josh Ward read those statistics off today on 99.1.

I'm sure we have other posters on here that were listening when they said this as well.

No, I didn't mean anything improper. And you're right-- it should never have gotten this bad, and if true, it reflects badly on the staff (and Dooley, too). I just meant that we will be all over these kids and give them everything they need to pull their grades up. We may lose a couple, but it probably won't be anybody critical.

You guys can just do the damn math if you are skeptical - take the GPAs and its pretty obvious a significant portion of the scholarship players were below a 2.0 this past semester... and that math won't even take into account those who may have had above a 2.0 for the semester yet their cumulative was still below a 2.0 (which would be a lot more rare of course... but possibly a few guys fall under that umbrella).

The math is exactly what I have done and I agree with you that there is an issue. It is either a few guys with terrible gpa issues or as you say a large number just below the mark. As I said earlier I am not sure which is worse.

Who in their right mind wouldn't be skeptical of something like this with no link?

My skepticism is not aimed at you. What you are saying makes complete sense and I completely believe that you heard this on the radio, but it's still strange that somebody like Hubbs knows this without writing a story about it. I'd think that a third of a team being in academic trouble would be something a journalist would write a story about.

Hubbs said on VQ it was about 4 players, maybe a little more.

Corey Miller and Darick are two of them

I actually think I'm mistaken with Hubbs because I don't think he has a show on 99.1 does he? Ive just heard him come on guest appearance - it was whoever co-hosts with Jimmy I believe... is that Wilkerson? I don't really see Josh Ward or him really writing articles.

There's a difference in being ineligible and on probation - the guys that are on probation (a majority of them atleast) may have it under control and just had two bad semesters in a row.. guys like Miller probably have some serious work to do on their overall GPA.

Did you hear it today? When I left class, Will West was with another announcer today in Josh and Will's usually timeslot. Josh Ward wasn't there. That was around 12:50. What time did you hear Josh Ward?

I bet a story is coming up. Throw out some info without names hoping people will subscribe to get the goods in the following days.

I heard it on Jimmy's show today I know for sure - I heard from Josh I last week sometime - it was about a day or two before I posted the 2.06 GPA stat.

And for the record - one said 2.06 and one said 2.08.. both had like a 1.9something for the scholarship players.
