A Post on Jordan Walker's Improvement

But she's been playing one on TV lately! Of course it was always going to be hard for her to sustain that level when its a reach for her.

I'm concerned JW is getting a bit mentally fatigued, understandable at this point in the season. But her famous cool and calm is showing cracks. The intentional shove of Annie H was an incredibly bad move, and should have sewn up the game for them. Also, she had the little arm smacking deal with another player recently.

Where in world is Jasmine Powell and what in the world happened to her?

Even when she was playing "well" her role was more that of a combo guard who happened to be on a nice scoring streak. She has never, and still has no clue how to run an offense.

Powell is just a disaster...

It's not fair to call her a "disaster" though I do think Powell is generally ineffective. She didn't need to be. I love her enthusiasm. But, she has a propensity to put herself in bad situations that she probably could get away with before she got to this level. She's quick and athletic and brave, but she isn't tall enough for her driving game among the trees in the SEC and she hasn't been required to slow down, see the floor, evaluate the situation and make smart choices. That's coaching and she's not getting it. Instead she puts her head down, penetrates, gets stuffed, and goes back to the bench. I had enormous hope for her at the start of the season.

I remember some went wild when Powell hit the portal and picked TN fair to say ?. Now there are a few who thinks she has been disappointment ? i agree. Now can TN find an upgrade in the portal sure, and i think Kellie should try and replace Powell .

I agree that her TOs were double a reasonable level, but she had the highest +/- on the team out of anyone that played more than 3 minutes.

I have a bigger problem with Darby and Puckett both being over 6-1 and in a combined 43 minutes ... 1 rebound, and 0 steals.

Walker really killed us last night, she lacks decision making skills. I don’t understand why she holds on to the ball so long, it’s annoying. it’s the reason the offense is stagnant , the offense is moving and she doesn’t get the ball to the right player in time so the offense is tired of moving by the time she decides where to pass it.

I can’t believe she didn’t see Puckett right in her face but rather force the ball to Rickea when the defense knows that’s where the ball is going.

She did the same thing at the end of regulation. Why would you throw the ball to someone with 3 ppl guarding them. Basketball IQ says other ppl are open.

She continues to drive into taller players instead of dishing off. She just doesn’t have a great basketball IQ.

There is one play where she is telling Rickea to go the right side and then just throws the ball to her, you just told the defense where you were going.

You're talking about Powell, who I really want to love, but you could exactly also be talking about Walker. And that tendancy to overdrive into trees is exactly why we needed a PG fm the portal. So we get - exactly the same thing? Now we have 2 doing it, and Miles would make 3 if she ever saw the floor. How is this allowed to continue?

At her height, how did Powell average 20 points per game at Minnesota?

Powell has been a total mystery! Earlier in the season, she looked exactly like what we needed and were missing and then all of sudden, she’s regressed tremendously. Who coaches our guards?

I don't know.

Maybe Wynn needs another shot. She is at least very fast.

We are too slow and not active enough on offense. Our players can’t get space and we make terrible passes. Any good defensive team that can also handle and shoot the basketball will eat our lunch. At times we play disorganized and lethargic. Good grief we turn the ball over with regularity. We are terrible with basic fundamentals. It’s just a sad state, Harper is going to have to recruit some pure sound basketball players and quickly. I want her to succeed but starting next year this team is going to have to show marked improvement. Crazy unforced turnovers are not acceptable. It’s time to start pulling folks off the floor that keep doing it even if we have to unload the bench to make a point. Things have to change.

"Defensive shooting guards who can't shoot", like "experienced PGs who can't orchestrate an offense", are one of many very specific categories that seem to apply LV players. Not a great trend....
And here’s the kicker. These “defensive” guards aren’t actually good defenders. If they were we wouldn’t be 239th in D1 in scoring defense (11th in the SEC).

Long history of them…and personified best by Andraya Carter. She was as fearless and tough as they came…until she was left with the basketball and not a defender within 10 feet of her being dared to shoot.

“I’m a defensive specialist!” is just another way of saying, “I can’t shoot…please don’t make me shoot!!!”

Too bad Tennessee can’t seem to get away from these kinds of players. Wynn takes that archetype to the next level.

The 'disaster" Walker was +40 for the game. On the talk show, they thought this was the best of anyone on the team all year long. So yet again, congratulations to Walker!

You're confused, "disaster" is the one shooting a scorching 1 for 19 in her last six games...

At least it not a high volume of shots/game. But still, as a player, I think you have to look yourself in the mirror and think about ... what kind of shots am I taking? Maybe 3 shots/game is still a few too many.

+40 in 26 minutes is ridiculous! This also means we lost by 13 while she was on the bench for 14 minutes.
