4 Dollar Gas

I thought this thread was about eating a taco bell.

Nice way to lighten the air!

Not to beat a dead horse, but I don't own a Hummer. That was a different poster. I get around 27 mpg on the road, and the mileage of my car was one of the reasons I chose it (over the V8 Audi S4).

What did you get? If you were looking at the S4, you were looking at vehicles in the same class as my car. :) Which also manages about 30 mpg highway and about 25 mpg city... if I don't drive like a jerk.

my 05 Chrysler Town and Country has gotten over 28mpg on long highway trips (and that's with 4 people, their luggage, AC and 80mph). It's brutal around town though.

Just checking in, I payed $4.51 for premium in Portland today.

Ouch. I bet marina gas is close to $5, then. We're pretty stagnant here. No better, but really no worse from 2 weeks ago. $3.79 for 87, $4.03 for 93.

Nobody take offense, we are surely not complaining. I actually shouted out a little "Praise Jesus!" when the pump broke the $50 mark.

Been doing a little reading of the science rags lately. I'm not too worried. I think we could be running off algae before we get to where Europe is at right now for petrol.

My brother tells me that the conversion to fryer oil is big business on ya'll's end of the country. I had, actually, not heard of such a thing when he first told me (quite a while ago) and didn't believe him -- he's been known to have some far-fetched ideas.

All sorts of alternative cars over here... I see an average of 3-4 SmartCars a day if it's nice out. There's a few all-electric cars rolling around, plenty of mopeds, etc. I'm personally strongly considering purchasing a compressed natural gas car (probably a Honda Civic GX) and building an all-electric Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle as my daily drivers. If I'm going to be paying upwards of $5/gal for my modded Nissan 240SX, I need something cheaper to get around in.

Do you know how much you would pay per mile with a CNG-powered vehicle? I've been interested in how much it would actually cost.

There was a story on the local news about a guy that has figured out how to run a car on water. How much do you think the oil people would pay him if that were true to sell them his idea and go away?

Who knows. A guy in France or Italy has figured out perpetual motion (sort of). He built a car that runs off of just air. It can catch it, use momentum to compress it and run off of it. Needs a little gas to start up, but basically gets a billion mpg.

When the people and government of the United States decides to get off its collective ass and do something about it. We've been spoiled for decades with the price of gas here. It's never going back down, and we're reaching that breaking point. Either change is made, or the entire infrastructure of the US collapses onto itself. Going to be an interesting ten years.

or the middle east runs out of oil

If the middle east ran out of oil tomorrow, half the world would be back in the dark ages by next week. Bubonic plague and everything.
