3 weeks and no Aguilar reports.

Heupel has the IT nerds downloading Hookers consciousness into him right now. He will be back in the public eye after the implantation is confirmed.
Going full Joey Mnemonic.

What are you expecting? Heupel to come out and say he’s twice the QB Nico was?

It’s probably better to minimize publicity at this point for an unproven asset and let him come into his own. This guy has basically no expectations on him and I’m sure they’re happy with that.

If you gave Heupel some venison, apples, and a rutabaga, he’d make a sausage you’d want to eat.

All he's doing is watching film with the staff and then hopefully throwing the ball around with whoever happens to be in town this time of year.

No idea what you would expect to hear about that. We know what he looks like throwing the ball. He's a veteran player at this point.

I will say this…I don’t remember our last QB ever being described as “smart”.
Nico has a couple more inches in height but a few less pounds. Judging from Joey’s listed height and weight, he should be able to sling the ball as far as Nico, only hopefully with better accuracy.

The thing I liked most about Nico was his ability to place touch on the ball. The biggest issue I saw with Nico is he didn’t see those targets open quickly enough for his touch passes to have a chance. Perhaps against the slower defenses of the Big 10 (lower 2/3) Nico will have time to run around behind the line of scrimmage and wait for receivers to lose the pass coverage so that he can make those soft touch throws.

As far as Nico leaving TN, I only expect to miss his potential. That potential gave us hope even when the QB play looked clumsy.

There’s obviously an assumption that Joey Aguilar is going to be the quarterback for the Vols this fall and he may very well be, but it’s not going to be without competition as neither Merklinger and George MacIntyre are not rolling over and conceding anything to Aguilar.

The next two months will be key in developing chemistry with the receivers, who takes leadership reins at the quarterback position and obviously for Aguilar simply learning the offense. While Tennessee certainly would prefer to have more than 100 days or so to get Aguilar ready, head coach Josh Heupel has acknowledged that getting a veteran of the game, even if he has been in different systems, is easier obviously than a freshman.

In fact, Heupel feels experience in multiple systems helps the learning curve. It’s something he acknowledged that was an advantage for Macintyre coming out of high school because he played in four different systems in four years.

It's extremely odd to me that if Nico hadn't pulled his crap and someone came here comparing Joey Aguilar to Nico favorably, suggesting Joey was the better choice, etc there would have been horse laughs and the guy would've been told they were crazy.

Now ....... Joey is suddenly the better choice.

That orange Kool Aid hits some of y'all really hard.

Just think it’s odd that after being in Knoxville for three weeks, there have been no reports about what the new QB thinks about things or what his new coaches and teammates think about him.
He is busy learning the Tennessee offense so he can fight for the starting job this fall. Which is exactly what he should be doing and what his new coaches and teammates would want him to do. He's here to do a job for the Vols and try to secure a future for himself in pro football, not for soundbites asking the same old questions about how he felt about what happened. Besides that, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know Aguilar would like to out-perform Nico Iamaquitta this fall and hopefully lead his new team back to the CFP.

Of course we would have laughed at that comparison, because we did not know who Aguilar was. After watching some of Aguilar games, it became clear to me that he has something that Nico will never have, a fast processing mind.
I am very optimist about next season with Aguilar at the helm, because mental talent is more important than physical talent for a QB in Heupel system IMHO.

Did you just watch highlights that didn't show his 24 INTs thrown in 2 seasons?

NO, I watched whole games, and it is easy to see why he had so many interceptions, he was playing hero ball. Context matters.
You think that's going to change just coming here? Tigers can't change their stripes, look at Will Levis. Coaches thought they could teach the hero ball out of him, wrong. He has an even bigger chip on his shoulder now, could even be worse.

It's different when you're playing from behind and making desperate throws. Hell, a good few of those ints were from the ball bouncing out of the WRs hands or getting swatted. Looks bad on paper, but it's not as bad as it seems either.
