7-5/8-4 with Bailey at QB and rolling into 2021 with the majority of the same offense coming back (Receivers/Running Backs/Linemen)
We will lose Kennedy and Smith for sure, very possible Cade Mays goes pro as well, so we won't have near the same OL coming back. We'll also lose Palmer, our best WR, Johnson, and our TE, Pope. So, we'll be losing at least 4, likely 5, and maybe 6 of the 10 other offensive starters. We'll win at least 8 next season with JG. Might not with Bailey. My preference would be to see JG start the season at QB, with the offense featuring a strong ground attack and ease Bailey into the starting role unless JG shows he can make his throws on a timely basis. When you have a really strong running game, you need a QB who does not turn the ball over. JG has proven he can be that type of QB. A little more decisiveness on his throws and he could look really good with that type of offense.

Mays, Wright, and Morris will all be on the team in 2021. Will prolly have both Mays brothers on the line.

And in terms of receivers, Hyatt and Calloway, along with Holliday should get plenty of playing time since the WR group is very inexperienced outside of Palmer. The group of guys that will be on the roster over the next 2 years (24 games) on offense will be majority the same guys.

JG - Second year under OC (first time in his College Career), graduated (more time to work on football related activities)

Chaney's system is complicated- mainly for WRs (Georgia Receivers fell off the map in 19') which will also affect the QB.
I think you see JG return back to 18' form which is probably about ceiling for him. Which is "not lose you ball games"

Pruitt has shown he trust the hands that have been there and not make mistakes - benching after fumbles etc..
all those professing Maurer as better really needs to go back and watch his games- he brought a little fire but a lot of his throws were awful and luckily he didn't end up with more INTs (but maybe another year in the system will help him too)

However, I think all the QB's will benefit from the larger competition (in '18 JG had the Grad transfer pushing him) in '19 he was declared starter day one.
I do think JG will be on a short leash, and for some reason he tends to work better under fire.

think we will be breaking in new long snapper.
We recruited a specialist for it.

I think his 2* rating should be left off our composite since he's just a long snapper. It's not like they'd be willing to rate the best long snapper a 5*.....

I'm pretty critical of Dan Mullen at UF, but there is ONE thing I will give him absolute credit for. He has held on to their back up QBs. Trask didn't transfer. Jones hasn't transferred. I would only start JG next year if I looked at my team and truthfully felt they can win the SECe. We've already opined a bunch about our results next year. If you are in the camp that says we win eight or nine games next year, then why start JG over Mauer or Bailey? JG should only start and continue to start if the logic is that experience gets us a title. Otherwise, I want to see the other guys get reps. The SEC is wide open next year. It will not remain that way.

I'm in favor of starting someone else just because their ceiling of play is much higher, don't set us back another yr by playing jg. because imo thats what it will do set us back a year, with next year being a first time starter rather than it being this year.

And you are right on this part, with that type of offense 8 to 9 wins. With a balanced attack and a good qb we can compete for sec east this year.

Sorry but we are not going to win 8 or 9 with JG. Our Max would be 7 wins with JG. We need one of the other Qb’s to step up and start if we plan on winning 8 games or more.

What would you rather happen of the two scenarios below:

7-5/8-4 with JG (in final year of eligibility) at QB and rolling Bailey out with no serious playing time in 2021
7-5/8-4 with Bailey at QB and rolling into 2021 with the majority of the same offense coming back (Receivers/Running Backs/Linemen)

7-5/8-4 with a 5th year senior who has been a dud over his career is very different than rolling out a 7-5/8-4 season with a 5 star true freshman QB......
I don’t see us as a 7 win team in any scenario. 8 or 9 IMO. Evaluate the 1&2 QBs every week and play the one who gives you the best chance to win. Get Bailey some snaps when possible if he’s not getting starts.

I'd change:

QB: Harrison Bailey
WR: DeAngelo Gibbs for Brandon Johnson
OLB: Roman Harrison for Deandre Johnson

I agree that Crouch ends up inside next to To'oto'o.

Gibbs has never played a down at wr in his career in college.. Im sorry to burst your bubble but Brandon Starting. You sit Brandon down what experience you going to have at the position..Brandon still put up better numbers in a single season than Palmer. Tennessee is paying for his Master Degree you think they going to invest in him just to sit the bench? Bailey is not gonna start. Guarantano just won a bowl game for crying out loud.

There's a lot you seem to know with absolute certainty about the future. Which is interesting, since it hasn't happened yet and since our own coaches don't know yet who will start at which positions.

Guarantano didn't "win" a bowl game. His team did. Against a mediocre team. And he wasn't all that good in that game. That doesn't come remotely close to guaranteeing him a starting spot next season. In 2004, Rick Clausen was the starting QB in the Cotton Bowl, when the Vols beat aTm. But Erik Ainge started the opener the next year. One has nothing to do with the other.

LOL He played terrible, JG did not win that bowl game FCOL. Gibbs impressed this past year in practice. He will be rotation and continue impressing people.

WR will be good but middle road SEC, not the aggressive types that can own the ball & be QB best friend
think RB will be split carries between 3 RB's no real starter.
Everything else looks very good even ST , think we will be breaking in new long snapper.
Most experienced QB in SEC besides kellen mond
Ramel Keyton is going to be a great wide receiver

Pope may be decent in the run blocking scheme but we need a solid pass-catching (emphasis on catching) TE.

So you can't answer a simple choose this or that question?

Gotcha.

Yall can say what yall want about JG but if it wasnt for him you dont finish 8-5 lets give the kid some credit. This team has a chance to win big and you want inexperience at the position?

Im one of JG's biggest critic. He help this team win 8 games last season. Give the kid a little credit. JG starting next year. He earned the right in my opinion

He is a terrible Qb and has not improved. Vanderbilt and Bowl
Game proved it. We need someone else to start.

You are right we do not finish 8-5 without JG, we finish 10-3 with wins in the first two games.

Do any of you JG haters...
Do any of you pedophiles have a reasonable explanation for why you aren't in jail yet? When you use the word "hater"... you're being no more truthful than I am using "pedophile".

...have a reasonable explanation why the coaches would intentionally start a guy that isnt the best option?

Essentially the answer is that they didn't have a "best option". They tried Maurer and after exciting the coaches briefly he got hurt. Shrout for whatever reason hasn't developed as a manager of the O and doesn't really give you much more in the passing game than JG.

JG was the "best" by default... not because he's good.

And due pretty much to experience alone, he was better at managing the run game. That's a big factor and was key to Pruitt's decision when considering Shrout briefly.

While im not totally on board that Pruitt and company are gonna take us to championship levels but im fairly confident that they wouldnt start JG if he was as bad as some of yall let on, while the next coming rides the pine.
He has strengths. I criticized his avoidance of the middle of the field over the off-season. He improved by leaps and bounds on the longer developing plays to the middle of the field. He still doesn't throw quickly to the middle often or well. But he made some very good plays this year he had not previously made... wouldn't even try them before.

But... he has a fatal weakness. He processes too slow. He also does not anticipate throws. That appears to be an innate weakness. It has and does manifest itself in late throws, underthrown balls, defenders closing on open targets, difficulty hitting hot routes, taking sacks, missing targets downfield, "checking down" because coverage closes, etc. It has always been a problem. I hoped after the 3 good performances at the end of the year he was overcoming some of those issues. Vandy caused concern. IU destroyed that hope.

It is time to cut bait and move on.
