2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Exactly. He has never done anything except say he was coach for a team that has Jocic in the NBA. UNC has been a laughingstock last few years.
It’s a matter of if a kid is more impressed by “I coached in the NBA” or “I got guys to the NBA”.

Lol it’s funny you mention UCONN because they are the most successful program since the turn of the century but wouldn’t even be in the top 20 of brands I think of first

The way I know I'm old is that I remember Indiana being good at basketball.

It's amazing how fast everything has changed. Michigan is now the top program in a state that has Tom Izzo coaching in it.

The idea that a 20 year old kid cares about UNC’s pedigree is ridiculous. When going to UNC or Kentucky meant you were gonna be there 3-4 years and you’d make at least one final four and get a million eyeballs, sure, but that’s over. They may make a compelling pitch because they manage to sell the NBA angle well with Malone, but these dudes couldn’t care less about a program’s historical success. By and large it’s NIL, NBA chances, how they like the coaches, and how good the team will be, in that order.

Harris may very well end up going to UNC but you can’t count out on Barnes just yet.

He seems to really want this kid and will be very aggressive with his approach.

We’re just not going to lay down.

You think a NC kid that grew up watching the UNC/ Duke rivalry has 0 interest in being apart of that?

If UNC is actually following up with an in-home visit tomorrow or this week sometime. Seems like we need to close before that happens
At least one Tar Heel site I've seen today is reporting the in-home visit was happening today. Maybe before or after the restaurant photo that's circulating. Apparently there's a revolving door at his house today.

The Deacon missed church to visit him tonight, he better not drag it out. When the Deacon visits on a Sunday evening, you best not let him leave without making a decision, especially when he took up a special love offering for you.

I agree, but I definitely believe that’s an exception.
What’s an exception, Juke himself? I mean sure if there’s some insider info saying Juke is a CBB junkie who’d relish being part of a historic program then yeah. I thought we were all just speculating

If you mean (as I’m typing this I think this was probably what you meant) the UNC Duke rivalry is an exception, possibly slightly so because he is from North Carolina. However I’d imagine the NCAA tourney would be a bigger exception, where we’ve won nearly twice as many games as North Carolina since the COVID cancelation (around when Juke would be starting high school)

Kids who like ball watch ball.
Again I just don’t think this is true a lot of the time. And I bet the ones that do are more into NBA. That’s not a value judgment, I love watching both, just what I’ve seen reflected when we have gotten insight into players pre-college watching habits

Yeah, I think if their head coach was established there, and had proven success, it would make a lot of difference; but just starting out there, he has no track record at the school. Just a lot of different angles, but getting to 3 straight elite eights is not nothing.

I see no reason to believe that the decision couldn't come down to comfort level and money. I think we can offer both. So, seems like a pretty even playing field to me. If I were to give anyone the edge, money being equal, might be distance from home. This would give NC a slight edge over TN, but both a big advantage over MI.

I was with you until there.

All 5 starters were transfers (this year, last year, doesn't matter). They have the most recent banner with a coach who UNC and others want/wanted.

That's who I'm most worried about.

I think players decide on a) money b) trust

Used to it was the opposite order

I’m hoping trust from an established relationship can carry us

Guess we will see
I’m as clueless as anyone
Ball is in his court I assume
We talking about TT, Juke, or just in general?

Maybe but times have changed drastically since then.

A lot of kids really don’t care about rivalries anymore.

They’re mostly looking to maximize their earnings & potential show casing their skills.
