2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I'm sure the staff has a far more prudent view of the recruiting landscape than I do 😁

Still, there's a reason you see a lot of these top-level internationals flock to the same handful of programs (Illinois, Arizona, Gonzaga, etc.).
Why is that ? I can’t recall if it’s Purdue or another Big X team, but 2-3 of their roster is form over seas. All can play inside - out and handle the ball.

He actually won Conference USA's version of newcomer of the year. He spent his two years at Virginia but never played. He redshirted his freshman and sat out with an injury the following season before transferring to Delaware. If he gets a medical waiver for his 2nd year at Virginia then he will have three years of eligibility left.

I'd be surprised if he's back next season. He's got skills, but if the number being thrown around is 7 figures, I'd pass. Kid is just injury prone. I'd use that money elsewhere.
Are you saying JP is requesting 7 figures to return? If so, don’t let the door hit him on the way out as he’s not with it - at least win Barnes’ system.

I expected more from JP and Carey this season.

I won’t elaborate I’ve posted enough about him this season.

I am grateful for when he plays up to his potential, but Barnes has said numerous times he has to stay on Estrella’s rear .. (not those exact words)

Few thoughts here: I know his dad (not well) through mutual friends. His dad played at Rice. They are big on Vandy and the education. They’re all a little shocked that he moved up the board and is getting so much attention. He’s recently been getting late 1st round grades. I think they’re torn because they want him to get a degree from Vandy. I watched him play in HS. He was even skinnier and shorter then, but obviously his first step, release, recovery speed, shot are all incredible. At 5 11” in real life measurements, he’s a tough pick, but scouts really like him. I think he’s probably 75% go to the NBA and 25% stay at Vandy. I think his family’s influence is strong. I don’t see him transferring. This is all conjecture. I have no insight from our side.
I’ve never understood the notion of staying to get a degree. Once you make generational money, you can always come back and get the degree. Hell come back in the off-season and take classes. It seems like an easy decision.

I used Kennedy Chandler as a size comp. He's had trouble sticking around and had a much better pedigree. KC was a 2nd rd pick. Both 6-0 and 170 lbs.
Speaking of KC, he just signed a 10 day contract with the tanking Jazz. He scored 19 his first game. Last night, KC scored 13 with 9 assists and 3 steals, off the bench

I don’t think his decision is NBA vs degree. I’m saying if he stays, there’ll be some family pressure around staying at Vandy. I don’t think it’s insurmountable, but it’s a factor. Agee that he can come back and buy a building at later.

I’m at a loss as to the current NIL market value for 6’-11” guys who have proven low post moves and extended shooting range but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 7 figures? With these talks of $10 million + for an SEC roster who knows?

It’s definitely 7 figures, those suggesting otherwise are clueless.

It crazy to me if JP is requesting 7 figure ms- not sure if the poster was referring to Estrella. What’s crazier is if the market is figures for this type player. He isn’t an all SEC player.

If the market is 7 figures, then idk what TN will do. JP isn’t with it imo.

It’s not my $$ but i rather TN spend $2 million on a much better 6’10 - 6’11 post player having more post moves. Will that such player be in the portal- i have no idea.

If JP Estrella hits the portal, he'd be a strong transfer target.

He might not be an all-SEC player but he's averaging 10 PPG on 62% FG percentage, averaging more recently just over 20 minutes/game for a top SEC team playing in the Sweet 16. There's plenty of teams who would immediately offer 7 figures for him, just to build their frontcourt.

Yeah, knowing the Vandy connections, hard to see him leaving. Plus Vandy is selectively paying like an SEC school, now. No reason to think we could just bully them financially anymore, especially for a kid with an emotional tie and support of his family.

I really struggle to see him sticking in the NBA. He's good, but if Kennedy Chandler can't stick long-term, I don't see how Tanner can. That's kinda weird to think. Go get paid if you can, I guess, but he's one whose uncertainty of sticking you would think makes a hefty NIL possibility a bigger factor in his decision to go or not.
Tanner reminds me a bit of Trae Young, undersized with a great perimeter game. Good quickness and an excellent floor general. I think he has a shot at making it to the Association pending the right team.
