Best pick the Jazz have ever had. We've had the #2 pick before two times, I think, but much worse drafts.

Apparently, Peterson's cramping this year was from taking creatine. If that's true, then problem solved and he could easily be the Wizards #1 choice. I would take Dybantsa, but I think NBA scouts generally like what they see from Peterson more.

With the lottery order now completed, I think Ament goes between picks 9-12.

Mavericks
Bucks
Golden State
Thunder.

Bucks should trade their pick to Celtics for Jaylen Brown, that may keep Giannis in Milwaukee ...if the money works out ...

Brutal for the Pacers. Absolutely brutal. I would not have traded 5 for Zubac
Unimaginably bad luck. Only the second time in almost 40 years that the team was even bad enough to have a shot at a high draft pick, and this happens. But, like you said, for a franchise that has historically been very well run, the Zubac trade borders on GM malpractice.

Regarding the Jazz pick

AJ - we need his play-making, he's got the highest ceiling, he likes being in Utah.
DP - best scoring guard in the draft since?....Has good size. Worried about whatever was going on freshman year, and if he'd wanna stay in Utah.
Boozer - safe pick, but least likely of the top 4 to be a future MVP, IMO. I think Paolo is a good comp for him, except Paolo is a better athlete and Boozer is a better shooter/playmaker.
Wilson - I think we may take him at #2 if Dybantsa is gone, and I'd be OK with it. He is the biggest freak out of this group.

Trade-back scenarios = a trade-back for Mikel Brown or Wagler makes a lot of sense, too, if we can get a good player who helps us win now.

I don't fault them for trying to have their cake and eat it too. They got unlucky. It really sucks. I am so sick of the east getting fkd in the draft. It's crazy. Can we start fixing the draft so that we balance the powers? Pacers were our one shot of having a team on the level of OKC or Spurs over the next 5 years.

Top prospects the last 7 years

Zion = west
Ja = west
Ant = west
Cade = east
Paolo = east
Chet = west
Wemby = west
Flagg = west
Harper = west
2026 #1 = east
2026 #2 = west
2026 #3 = west
2026 #4 = east
2026 #5 = west

Ajay Mitchell is so good, only costs a few $ million, so I don't think OKC can afford to move forward with J Will when they're going to eventually run into salary cap/apron problems. Even if they aggressively shed money elsewhere this summer (Caruso, Dort, Hartenstein), they'll have problems in a couple years.

I think J Will is more likely to be traded than J Brown, and they will have a similar market. Brown is more reliable and proven, but he's also way more expensive.

Potential trade partners for either guy:

Utah
Memphis
Chicago
Brooklyn
Sacramento
Atlanta
Milwaukee

I don't think Utah would give up the #2 pick in either deal, but JJJ for Brown makes quite a bit of sense for both teams. I kinda doubt Memphis would do something like this with the #3 pick, but maybe they are desperate to start winning given how upset fans are. Anything is on the table with Chicago and Sac.

Porter is such a non-OKC fit I can't quite see it, but there's a Porter+assets for J-Dub deal with Porter expiring that might work.

Atlanta has a $11M trade exception...there's a Daniels for J-Dub deal that also could work.

MPjr ain't happening. I think Brookly can just absorb Williams' contract

Also, a note on Wagler, who had 0 dunks in college, and people were worried about his hops. 33" standing vert isn't bad.

Posted this in another thread where y'all might not see it.

Ament interviewed on the Russillo show at the 45-minute mark. He says he seriously considered coming back.

Russillo also has a funny story about going to Barnes' basketball camp when he was a teen.

BS and Lowe today were talking about how the market for Giannis is not going to be great compared to what's expected, and Myles Turner is already kicking him on his way out the door. If Milwaukee gets desperate, could Atlanta get the deal done with Kuminga or Dyson Daniels and #8 (plus future draft picks)? That might be their best option, and it's probably worth the trade. Bucks could take Brown #8 and Ament #10, or something like that.
