2026 Lineup/Depth

If you’d seen Antigua at SS yesterday, you’d reconsider. Might be best defensive SS in college baseball. His athleticism and hustle are off the charts. Marin is no slouch but Antigua is all time special on D. If he can hit ,270 and lay down an occasional bunt, he will play.

PS. Plus Antigua had a better Fall than Marin so it’s Antigua’s spot to lose.
Defensively, I agree. Antigua looks like a pro playing the position. You are right, he is perhaps the best defensive SS in college baseball. No reason he can't play SS and slide Marin to 2B, if necessary. AA does have to improve with the bat to even a serviceable level. I really thought he'd have gotten there by now, but we are still waiting. Hopefully it improves.

AA's problem has never been the field, it is the bat. If he can't bat, he can't make up for his bat in the field. I hope he can but will wait to see.
Agreed but hard to hit when you are consistently injured. I think with finally being at full strength, Antigua will hit enough to justify starting at SS. If he can take his walks, hit .270 and show the ability to occasionally sacrifice at the plate to move over runners, I think he will stick at SS. He was magical yesterday on D.

Myatt homered and hit a hard single.
Lawless homered
Brown doubled.
It’s going to be really hard to keep Myatt’s bat out of lineup.
Chapman dazzled on D. His vocal leadership is noticeable
Interestingly, Grimmer was nowhere to be seen yesterday or today. Assume he might be sick as he didn’t participate in workouts or scrimmages.

Chapman has always excelled in the OF
Diving plays, MLB arm for an outfielder and I believe had 0 errors last season
Hoping Chuck and E get him up to .300 this year

I think Antigua could be the best defensive shortstop in the SEC. The question is can he stay healthy?? That is what has hindered him the last two seasons.
The injuries he had two years in a row were just rotten bad luck. I think percentages alone are in his favor to be healthy. Have wondered what he could do when completely healthy. Hopefully, we will see.

Was the homers off of our starting rotation?? I never know what to think of our pitching getting hit hard are our hitters that good or is our pitching mediocre??

Agreed. It is hard to overcome all the missed opportunities at the plate he has missed during the fall and spring the last two seasons.

Neither Appenzeller or Krenzel were very sharp. Now, Mack and Kuhns were lights out on Thursday—both looked like Friday night SEC starters.

It’s D1 baseball. Guys are going to get hit hard occasionally. Dollander/Beam/Burns/Doyle all got hit hard at one point or another, it happens.

I think if you’re Elander, you don’t mind in the preseason having days where the pitching shines and then days where the hitting shines

Anything on Abernathy? We all expect him to make a jump this year, but is he showing that he will?

Abernathy is a leader on the field. The way he directs the young guys and gets them in position in the outfield is impressive. He will crush it this year both at the plate and in CF. He’s a stud.
