In recruiting, there are two strategies. One is to constantly look to upgrade which means existing players can get buried in the rotation (unless they transfer); the other is to respect prior commitments to your existing players and look to fill in gaps.Exactly what I have been trying to get across about the portal and the incoming freshmen. They didn't sign those players to sit on the bench. They will be a huge presence in the rotation. I think they are trying to replace exactly what they lost maybe with players they think are better. It is obvious our biggest need is a power post that is versatile in her play. Williams or Okot would be ideal, but they are wanted by probably more than fifty teams so a lot of competition. Mia Pauldo is going to be a major player at point guard and her sister will have a huge role in the rotation. Civil and Prawl will play a lot as well. Hurst is the only one I have no handle on really don't know what her role will be first season here. I suspect she will play just how much depends on portal and her volleyball aspirations.
For a new coach, like CKC you would expect a little more of 1 since they have an inherited a roster not of her making. But, it really seems that she leaned into 1. While she recruited over Stricklen with Latham and Spearman, for the most part she found a way to work all the inherited players into the rotation, and filled the gap at PG with Spencer (and there were big ? around Wells coming back from an ACL). In the end, Puckett lost out a bit but she still had a role.
Long term, I think this is a better strategy in terms of recruiting and keeping players. As the team stands, we seem good on guards, need one more shooter to replace Tess and a post (Maybe two) presence so that Zee and Latham can be at the 4, their more natural position.
