2025 Transfer Portal

Not all bad news regardless if someone is leaving has to mean they know some players are coming in that they thought would cut into their time.

I did see some woman trying to talk Cooper into leaving on twitter forgot what school it was she was touting as I thought is was just Bs ing around.
True just hate injuries stopping her from playing

And they been coming for coop soon as our season ended😭😂

Genuinely asking, is it really such a turn-off? Maybe for the really big players who are wanting 30+ minutes in every game, sure. But if you've just been a solid role-player at one school, why wouldn't you give it a shot?

No it’s just a talking point others like to use against UT right now. I actually think as an incoming freshman it’s a huge SELLING point. They’re gonna see the floor. This isn’t UCLA or South Carolina where you’re gonna ride the pine for a whole year then get sparing minutes as a sophomore. You’re gonna play and you better be ready.

For any competitive kid that is a dream. You reap what you sow with Kim.

For some reason, I thought she was already officially out, I guess they could mean her.

Des did senior day so I’m not convinced it was ever the plan for her to return. I think she’s medically done. Maybe she isn’t convinced but her body did not recover from the first tear and then it sounded like she had another.

This is my concern... In the beginning as we all know, Kim Caldwell was able to get a top recruiting class and did awesome in the transfer portal but since everybody seen her style of play in action mostly of her subsitutions, kids are now reluctant to commit to Tennessee. Kim Caldwell needs to change her system a little bit, or face consequences in the recruiting trail. I really am concerned about who are we going to get in this 2026 recuiting class.
I beg the differ. If they don't like where style they don't have to commit to her. This system is a winning system for her per her past success. She recruited arguably the #1 recruiting class this upcoming class. They reviewed her system and how it has been used at Marshall and Glenville State, but yet they still committed. Why? Because they wanted to play in this type of system, so did the returnees and the transfers that came in. Yes her system doesn't fit everyone, but the ones that it does will succeed in it, if they buy in.

But you need at least 1 really big player to win it all, look at UConn with 3 number 1 overall recruits is the team that won it this year. A team full of role players can be exciting but can they win it all is the question.

I refuse to believe getting more players more time is a bad thing. The best are still playing 28-30 minutes just like they would at other schools. Just in a different interval than people are used to seeing.

I must have missed the decommit of current recruiting class that has seen the team play

Some will like the style, some won’t. Def those who sign on will know and agree to it and be excited about it. If I was the recruit my biggest concern would be leg overuse and possible injury such as stress injury etc. I’d def ask what they plan to do different to address that next yr.

I don’t believe the same recruiters who landed that hs class while everything was a complete unknown is about to strike plum out in the portal. They’ll sign 2 or 3 in the next little while I’m sure.

Hard to gauge or predict team chemistry from year to year. Youngsters change a lot year over year especially now in the world of NIL and players having a transfer portal. If you've played or coached with youngsters 13 and up at championship levels you know this is accurate. One year seems as if they're having a magical season, the following season with same group can be a disaster as well as vice versa, a disastrous season vs a following magical championship season. It's why Saban was so special, his process worked until NIL and the portal took his control away.

Genuine answer here Maple as a fellow uconn fan....would you want to be subbed out after 90 seconds? I wouldn't. Kids want to play, tally points rebounds, steals, etc etc. Maybe even make the evening sports hi lights. I said it early in the year and I know my opinion here doesn't matter, but I really like CKC, everything about her. However, she needs to stop the mass substitutions after 90 seconds. I think in the long run it's going to prevent Tennesse from getting to the top again...which this uconn fan would like to see because as I have said many times before, there is nothing like a Uconn/Tennessee rivalry game.

I think it's mighty weird for the armchair All Americans here to be speculating with any kind of certainty about what players do and do not want. No two players are alike, and Coach Caldwell has obviously been able to pitch lots of talented people on her system successfully.

Does that mean every player will sign up? Obviously not. But a lot of y'all seem to be projecting your own feelings and trying to pass them off as legitimate "we've heard this on the trail from real recruits" kind of stuff.

At the very least, our coach was able to recruit players capable of beating UConn in year one. 😜

You play for a couple minutes, sit for a couple minutes, and then you're right back in. If you're hot and making shots, you're gonna be left in longer.

Why is this so hard to comprehend?

Right? Not rocket science.

Where are people coming up with “overuse” as well? She isn’t overusing anyone. She’s spreading the energy out so you can go hard in the time you’re on the floor which should REDUCE injuries.

Seemed to work against you guys.

Everyone comprehends. Some players just will not want to play that way and that’s ok. No indictment of them nor the system. Some players depend on rhythm and flow to get going. Some of our players, esp the shooters, said it was a big adjustment for them. Flow is something any recruit will have to learn to live without since this system thrives on chaos.

I didn’t notice hot shooters being left in. They almost always got pulled on their regular rotation regardless of.

Coach Kim Caldwell doesn't have to change anything. If the players don't want to come then we don't need them.

We aren't changing just for them! All we got to do is get the right pieces. The one's who want to be here.

Probably coming up with overuse from that time the coach said the disastrous late season slide was due to overuse. Honestly admitted she underestimated the physical demands and would adjust for that next yr.

Everyone could see and said they were spent physically and mentally. That’s why the two weeks btw tourneys was golden for them

You are absolutely right. I said it was only my opinion. I guess time will tell whether the system is a draw for kids or not. And yes, you did beat us with the mass substitution system....but the mass substitution system did not win the national championship! 😜

Figured you’d try to work that last part in. 🙄

Because a title in year one was a reasonable goal, eh? Guarantee you didn't have a loss in Knoxville in the cards when the season started.

But let's be real—I kinda think it goes without saying that your disposition means you're not gonna give the Lady Vols the benefit of the doubt. No offense, but objectivity isn't really the starting point here.

EDIT: Case in point, the "time will tell" remark is funny because, looking at the data we've got so far, Coach Caldwell's done an excellent job recruiting talent. Why should we (you) automatically assume the future will be different? I know one answer to that question.

I guess it depends. I played ice hockey so maybe I'm used to the constant substitutions. ;) But on a serious note, I think CKC will still sub out frequently moving forward but might extend the time period in which people see the floor. Tweaks to the system are inevitable. With this in mind, if I was someone who wanted to get more floor time and play some tougher competition, there are worse places you could go. At the very least, maybe someone would be willing to use it as a stepping stone.
